I’ve started a Substack. Predominantly as a motivator to get stuff written. First post is little more than an introduction, but I will be writing actual articles. Head on over and subscribe, if that’s the sort of thing that floats your boat.

Why does our government have a presence on a platform that generates and distributes CSAM? Morality and principle have been triangulated away. What a bleak fucking world.

I am extremely confused as to why the UK government and police are saying Grok’s mass-scale CSAM generation is an issue for Ofcom.

This isn’t about X failing to moderate CSAM, which is an Online Safety Act issue. It is about the company and its technology being actively involved in its generation.

The great great Béla Tarr has left us

His films are such a profound influence on everything I do

Sátántangó in particular, I can’t even find the words to express it

Pure cinematic poetry

Oh gosh. Oh no. His films are incredible.

I recuse myself from saying Totoro. It’s really close at the top, but I’m going to say Porco Rosso. I love that damn pig.

Obviously illegal. Obviously imperial. Obviously demented. Obviously reprehensible. Strength to the Venezuelans on the receiving end of this bullshit. Strength to the Americans speaking out and standing up.

Received the Monument Valley trilogy for the Nintendo Switch for Christmas, and my five year old has really taken to it. It’s so gorgeous and wholesome and he’s been so quick to pick it up. It makes my heart sing.

I received the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album ‘Live God’ for Xmas, and I’m listening to it properly for the first time. I was present for one of the live shows it captures. And, dear god, it is magisterial BUT I cannot stress how important it is to access art that emotionally resonates with you.
