I wrote this story for a prompt late last year. Unfortunately, the anthology didn't get enough interest for the publishers to move forward with the project. I liked this piece enough that I self published it on my #substack #shamelesspromoweek2025

This was my first credit ever. Up until this point it I was just giving it a shot, to see what would happen. It would be 6 more months before my next sold story. If this hadn't been picked up, I wouldn't have had such an amazing, #bookish year. #shortstories #shamelesspromoweek2025

Roman Caruthers is a man of focus and secrets. When his brother gets in the crosshairs of a local gang, he must decide how far he will go to protect his family.

King of Ashes is another fantastic crime thriller from S.A. Cosby!

I made the long list of a first chapter contest. My chapter could get published in this anthology and I'll win $50.
However the fine print says they get unlimited, non-exclusive, royalty-free rights. The unlimited part worries me. Will this cause problems if try to publish the full novel later on?

I honestly thought Toadhead by Andrew Lyall was going to be a horror comedy with hypno-toads from #Futurama.
I was very wrong.
And it was fantastic.

Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix earned its place on my favorite books of 2025 list with humor and chaos.

Bonus for in depth horror movie lore and making me feel invested in the survival of a potted plant named Fine.

Set against the backdrop of the 1974 Boston school desegregation, a rough-edged Irish American mother will do anything to find out what happened to her missing daughter.

Small Mercies by Dennis Lehane is dark, thrilling, and at times heartbreaking.

The Clatter Man establishes the folklore behind a Candyman-esque killer.

You can tell the author @j-schiecke.bsky.social loves the horror genre by how she pays homage to the tropes while still making the scenes her own.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid is a haunting and cerebral story. Im not even sure how to describe it without spoiling anything.

It's a short read, just give it a shot.

Perla Wutz is one of my favorite main characters of the year. This book made me realize how much I love villain protagonists.

Perla is a suburban mom that enjoys lying, stealing attention, and obsessing over a murder that happened decades prior.

The first S.A. Cosby book I read was All the Sinner's Bleed, back in spring.

Before I finished, I knew I would eant to read Cosby's entire backlog.
