Clearly whether Aston Villa qualify for the Champions League is going to be decisive for our policy this summer.
That said, there are some more general challenges, regardless of what competition we get into, namely:

Not a great performance but who cares. Was all about the result and got the job done.
Not many standouts but thought Bogarde deserves real praise. Kept Mitoma pretty quiet. Barkley made a big difference coming on + hopefully a confidence boost for Bailey too

Promising first 10mins but fouling broke up our rhythm and we got drawn into a scrap rather than a football match. Attack really disjointed, bar Sancho-Rogers link up. Missing our two best progressive passers.

Atlético Nacional's young centre back Royer Caicedo has all the attributes to make the jump to a Top 5 league. Remember the name. Will be surprised if he's not in Europe by this time next year.

Think we got lucky here but surely the reasoning behind disallowing was the shove on Guessand by O'Brien?
Goalless between Aston Villa and Everton at half-time.
Jake O'Brien thought he had put Everton in front but his joy was cut short by the linesman's flag.
Harrison Armstrong was in an offside position when the ball was played and was deemed to have been interfering.
The right call?

Think we got lucky here but surely the reasoning behind disallowing was the shove on Guessand by O'Brien?
Weird performance. Perhaps lucky to still be level but did create more than enough chances to be ahead ourselves. McGinn injury seemed to disrupt the rhythm

Really don't understand why we'd want to let Malen go - ok he isn't an out-and-out striker but he gives us something different.
Surely want to be building depth, not just gambling on someone who might be may or may not be a better Watkins deputy 🤔 #avfc
