What is the gravest ecological challenge? Global heating, mass extinction, pollution? My new book, ‘Just Earth’, published by Bloomsbury Books & which is out in March, suggests it’s actually social inequalities.

During the 1990s environmental damage was projected in the future to cause mass migration, food price increases, disease & extreme weather, among other things. We are living now in the beginning of that future. Taking action is vital for national security.

An across-government technical assessment published today recognises that "nature is the foundation of national security" and that "every critical ecosystem is on a pathway to collapse". A rational response to this would be to get very serious about nature recovery.

Why are we failing on climate change and biodiversity despite fifty years of campaigning? Could social inequality be the root cause undermining all our conservation efforts?
In this episode, I talk with @tonyjuniper.bsky.social about his latest book 'Just Earth'. 🌍

Marvellous. They are in Logan’s Meadow nature reserve. I have found the odd half eaten big fish by the boathouses and thought it was probably signs of Otter. Excellent to get an actual sighting and picture. Really great 👍

How do you get a 120% increase in wetland plants in the farmed landscape & massively increase water beetle diversity too? The answer is restore farm ponds by scrub & sediment removal - key is to go in hard & make a big impact. See new paper: share.google/VVowsJzqHdPT...
