It’s also useful to remember that when the Nazis started their BS they took inspiration from US Jim Crow laws.
It's also worth noting that the people orchestrating this in the U.S. take inspiration from the Nazis and reference Nazi slogans in their recruiting. Greg Bovino literally dresses like a Nazi. There a reason these comparisons get made.
I find takes like this unsatisfying because they ignore the point of the Nazi analogy. It's not about denying America's history of racist terror. "Nazi" is not just code for "bad but in a way that specifically doesn't implicate US antecedents." www.bostonglobe.com/2026/01/26/o...

I promise, you have my solemn word, as one who is here in the PNW, who was just in Portland, that city is NOT burning down. It is still there, and I might add, very nice.
Trump: "I look the other night, Saturday night, Portland is burning to the ground and these people are saying it's just friendly stuff. The whole place is burning to the ground. So we'll take care of that one. That's like an insurrection more than it is anything else. Portland is crazy."

It’s kind of funny to be thousands of miles from home and look over to see your old friend* just hanging out. Why hello there, @scalzi.com
*I am in no way friends with him, but have been reading his books for a long time.
