I mean for the raymarch thing, not the radiance cascades, since that's for lighting and not drawing objects I imagine it's very different.

ooh yeah this looks similar! I wonder how they encode the data. Since my light beams are fundamentally 2D, the lookup table can be 4D (ax, ay, bx, by). I'd be curious how you expand this to 3D without the amount of data needed becoming huge

hah yeah might be related :o I guess baked lighting can also be thought of as a lookup table. Though radiance cascades would be far more complicated than what I'm doing

I'm not 100% sure i understand the question. When drawing the light to the screen, it samples the lookup texture once (with 4-way linear filtering).

The lookup texture is generated via raymarching.

*raymarch result is precomputed and saved to a 256x256 lookup texture. So at runtime it can just grab the right value directly for any ray. Haven't profiled it yet but it should be fast? probably??
