Towcester is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the country. It was the Roman town of Lactodurum, located on Watling Street, today's A5. In Saxon times, this was the frontier between the kingdom of Wessex and the Danelaw.

Recent Ringing
At Towcester, Elizabeth Wilby rang her first peal, of Stedman Cinques. She's a chip off the old block, as her father, Michael, also rang the same method for his first peal. The band comprised family and friends.

Towcester, an ironstone tower with some limestone banding either side of the East window. The tower is partially obscured by the large evergreen bushes in the vicarage garden. The tower has 4 stages, a clock in the 3rd and the louvres in the 4th. There are crenelations.
The church is behind the tower, the north aisle is partially visible. The sky is a uniform grey and it looks a bit chilly.
