For the avoidance of doubt, a building is not human and therefore, does not have feelings to hurt.

7/7 We remain resilient. We remain united. Trans people belong in Brighton. Transphobic hate is not welcome here.

6/7 We’re not alone. We stand with brave cis women who reject transphobia. Misogyny is real and escalating. The “gender critical” agenda will only harm women by policing gender expression.
transpridebrighton.bsky.social
5/7 We’re also disappointed that Brighton & Hove City Council promised to fly the trans flag over both town halls this weekend in solidarity, then backed out, citing Black History Month. As if intersectionality doesn’t exist. Once again, our community is pushed aside by institutions.
transpridebrighton.bsky.social
4/7 We are deeply concerned about the risk of a retaliatory attack on the Trans Pride Centre and other community spaces. We urge everyone to stay alert, look after one another, and move safely.
transpridebrighton.bsky.social
3/7 We’re already seeing trans-exclusionary activists weaponise this moment to portray themselves as victims while they platform hate. They drape themselves in suffragette colours, celebrating a movement built on militant direct action, yet condemn trans people for refusing to quietly accept abuse.
transpridebrighton.bsky.social
2/7 However we will not denounce members of our wider community for expressing anger born of marginalisation. For years, trans people in Brighton have been dismissed by the Council, attacked in the media, harassed in our streets and excluded from public life. Anger is a natural response to injustice

🧵 1/7 Last night, a trans-led direct action group, Bash Back, damaged windows at the Brighton Centre in response to it hosting the Filia Conference. To be clear: TPB had no involvement in this and doesn’t coordinate with Bash Back. Our organising centres community safety and collective empowerment.

Shout out to all the people lining the @transpridebrighton.bsky.social parade route on Saturday who were waving trans flags, or wearing trans t-shirts, or otherwise being visibly supportive.

There were loads of you and honestly it means the world to know that you're all out there 🙂

Thank you to the 50k people who showed up to march with us yesterday. As a small, volunteer-run charity that doesn’t take corporate donations, the support we’ve seen this year, through volunteering or donations, has been overwhelming and galvanising. We’re 12 years in and just getting started!

Support from organisations like Theatre Royal Brighton and The Colonnade Bar means so much to the trans+ community. Thank you for helping keep the arts inclusive!

Trans kids are not a “debate.” You deserve adequate education, support, and safety, not a political agenda dressed up as policy. No law will erase your identity or the love and solidarity that surrounds you.

A bold graphic with a large pink heart on a blue background. Inside the heart, in large white block letters, the text reads: “Trans Kids You Are Loved.” Below the heart, in stylized font, it says: “Trans Pride Brighton & Hove.” The design is vibrant and affirming, conveying a clear message of love and support for transgender children. A screenshot of a tweet criticizing a new UK Labour Party education policy, comparing it to the infamous Section 28. The tweet reads: “Labour’s new Section 28 for trans children is entirely based on transphobic propaganda. This could have been written by any transphobic bigot.” Below the tweet is an excerpt from a policy document titled “Gender Reassignment” with points 43 to 46. The text emphasizes that legal gender reassignment can only occur at 18, denies gender identity as a valid topic for younger students, and instructs schools to avoid teaching gender as a spectrum or using resources that challenge biological sex as a fixed category. The tone of the policy is restrictive and dismissive of trans identities.

When the political climate improves, supportive parties may be welcome again, but this year, we are drawing a necessary boundary.

Thank you for your understanding, and for respecting this decision made in solidarity by Trans Prides across the UK.
transpridebrighton.bsky.social
We recognise the solidarity shown by trans, non-binary, and allied politicians. Your support matters. But we ask that you attend Trans Pride as individuals not as party representatives. Walk with us, not behind party banners.

Pride has always been a protest. It is a space for the LGBTQIA+ community to resist oppression, celebrate our resilience, and support those who are most under threat. This year, that means prioritising the safety and autonomy of our trans, non-binary and intersex siblings above all else.
transpridebrighton.bsky.social
Our community is facing an unrelenting ideological assault. Politicians openly discuss how to strip us of our rights. We’re vilified in the media, misrepresented in public discourse, and made the scapegoats of wider political agendas. Our community’s level of fear, trauma, and exhaustion is growing.
transpridebrighton.bsky.social
We are asking political parties and politicians, including those who have previously spoken at or supported our event, to respect this position and understand the reasons behind it.
transpridebrighton.bsky.social
This year, every Trans Pride in the UK has taken the collective decision to exclude all political parties from officially participating in our events. That includes marching under party banners or hosting stalls within our event spaces. 🧵
