Another day another border's dahlias to dig up. It's barely 40F and everything is sopping wet.
Keep an eye on the tubers over the winter, and learn what works best for your particular conditions. Good luck!

Welp this happened this afternoon. It's my original save file, prepandemic and pre 1.5.
I mean, I would have bought spices for any chili (for any dish) from SOMEBODY, so.

It's okay. I like pumpkin, and the spice blend is reminiscent of Skyline Chili. Remember I have a pile of garden pumpkins to somehow use up.
In early October I went on a pumpkin spice buying spree. Tonight we are dealing with consequences.
Haha. Stephen Fry certainly thinks he's in Clue. I don't know about the rest of the cast.
Resting while the birds express bird-pinions about my work.
And done. The right border still needs to be done, but i am soft. Tomorrow. Today's tubers will spend a week or so drying on the Barnes covered porch, then into cardboard boxes in the garage. I don't clean them!
Left border done! Moving on to this raised bed. All these grew from tubers i tried to compost last winter. They were some of my favorites this year, so now I'm digging them up.
Back at it. These two flowers were on a single Cafe au Lait plant!
Garden inspector says I'm doing a great job! Carry on!
This enormous friend (1.5") is alive, just cold.
Then I get in with my garden fork and prise the tubers up. The soil in the borders is friable from years of amendment, so it isn't hard to do.
First I get on my hands and knees to cut down the stalks. They are green and crisp so it's easy. They will break down in the compost, no problem.
Goodbye, babe. You've been so good. See you next year.
