Final pt: She also noted that links to my Forget Me Not Hypertextual Archive (v. old!) & Harry Hootman's db were already broken by 2016 🫤

Yes.

U Miami Ohio deleted my site after the faculty member who published it moved to another university + Harry died 😥& domain fees for his site lapsed

Reading that review (admittedly from something I published 10 yrs ago) has made me realize that I need to spend some extremely focused time on drafting chps instead of going to another archive in the Spring. I won't get this oppty for dedicated time for another 7 yrs - F26 = back to the grind

PS No sour grapes here! I did a thing; put it out there; waited for feedback. I can't be upset when I *do* get feedback! 🥰

This 1st monograph didn't please anyone. Didn't win any awards. Annoyed some ppl bc the images weren't in color or table fonts too small. I wonder if ppl realize that authors don't control much.

In the end, tho, ppl have read my work & ignored all of those errors, for which I'm grateful 🤩🧐

In the end, it was a *great* in-depth reading, especially for a book review. Each time I received a review, it was apparent that it was from one of the 3-4 fields that my work straddles.

8: She spent quite a few sentences explaining that the *citation* for Faxon index was WRONG because I didn't mention the *original* printing and only the later printing w/added essays -- but I bet she didn't know that I couldn't find the original printing. Fair point, tho.

7: She hated the index of full text literature and the use of Boyle & Faxon but didn't see that I corrected some of those. She wanted more than the big 6 in the sample index of authors -- but she didn't know that the editor suggested putting those dudes in so people wd care abt the topic 🤷‍♀️

5: She was deeply annoyed by the misidentification of how much a guinea is. That's fair.
6: She bluntly expressed aggravation at the reiteration of people's roles in the period from chp to chp. Hmm...ok, pt taken. But, it was my 1st bk written between the massive service & 4/4. I did my best 🫶

3: She catches so many copyediting issues -- but I bet she didn't know that the press provided a copyeditor but the typesetter didn't catch all of those & neither did I in the final review
4: She pts out my lack of facility w/bibliography terms -- she proly knows I only know a bit abt bibl

1: She read *deeply* for which I'm massively grateful! from a librarian's pov = awesome
2: She excoriates my index -- but I bet she didn't realize that I didn't have $ to hire a pro & did it myself...it was a woeful attempt on my part

Doing some deep research in the archives about colonial literary annuals in Bengal & found a review of my 2015 book by a librarian which starts out "Harris found her turf early on" which means that this will be a banger of a review in the BSA journal.

Some observations (1/+)

I didn't have $$ for indexing and did it myself....oofff....entries that lead nowhere.

Also, just got a note from the publisher asking if I'd like to convert my 2015 book to open access for $1500 🤯doesn't seem like a lot, but I'm on v thin margins w/current project 😪

I wonder if there will be a turn to generative AI to build an index for a book? And I wonder if it could have caught that not one but 3 paragraphs were repeated in error in 2015 book bc final print didn't insert the corrections from the copyeditor (error introduced in typesetting)?

Fantastic article! It reinvorces exactly why I'm taking so infernally long to create metadata for my @archive.org collection of literary annuals -- bc once s/o quotes it, that knowledge gets re-quoted & calcified!

I'm enjoying that he basically is re-publishing all of those original periodical articles and adding an intro which is really a mini-monograph. So many reviewers were aghast when I included big excerpts in my book, but it was bc no one had access to the literary annual texts!

What a boon!

The 60pp intro to the collection 🤯
His economic take here is so interesting and the final section of the intro tackling what I think is very similar to your take the power dynamics of India's cultural growth in the early 19c.

Bonus that this intro is such an expansive history lesson.

Today was spent wading thru a fab book by Rahul Sagar *To Raise a Fallen People* that resurrects 19c articles from India's periodicals. When my brain is bursting like today, I usually wander down the hallway to visit my wonderful Philosophy colleague, Anand Vaidya. He passed away suddenly Oct 2024 😥

In searching for a family contact for a deceased colleague's family to ensure we can re-purpose his dataset, I bumped into my 2012 post lamenting lack of $$ & time to do what I'm doing now in 2025 😪 triproftri.wordpress.com/2012/03/06/l...

After borrowing workflows to tag those 1k images

THEN I'll launch into asking really interesting questions about the development of the short story in early 19c, representations of colonial voices, warping of beauty standards, inclusion of non-English texts & more
