Thread for those new to BlueSky. First of all, welcome. It feels like a safer space, doesn’t it? But also perhaps a bit disorienting initially? Here’s some tips for getting your bearings.

The BBC's has responded in The Guardian that this was a routine editorial decision, but also that it was made on legal advice. Those two explanations don’t fit together. /1
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

OK I've made progress. Unless you have > £50,000 *gross* income from self-employment plus property rental, you can forget this for another year. The advantage of kicking can down road is other people will be the lab rats for the new scheme. There seems no disadvantage. Ignore your PAYE income. HTH
Any uk taxpayer found an accessible explainer for Making Tax Digital? I actually watched the HMRC webinar which was a superb example of how to bore people stupid without giving them the information they need. Someone surely has cracked this?

Same evidence. Different guidelines.
Not a science problem—a translation problem.

Let’s never forget rationing ventilators and Zoom funerals. Boris Johnson and his cronies partied while our loved ones lay dying alone. COVID-19 was the worst public health crisis in a century. We should have locked down earlier. To some of us, PPE was not a get-rich-quick commodity.
