Remember that small window when LL was doing choreographed dances in his videos? We got into that and more in this episode.👇🏾

35 years ago, on October 7, 1990, LL Cool J took to the streets of New York to find his “Around The Way Girl.” On this episode, we’re having a quick conversation about the video, and discuss who our favorite “Around The Way Girl” is.

Episode 90 - "Lisa, Angela, Pamela, Renee."

We didn’t intend to re-release this episode on an anniversary, but here we are.👇🏾

Today’s the 37th anniversary of Sir Mix-A-Lot debut album, Swass.

Choosing to re-release this episode today was a total coincidence, we didn’t plan this at all…you’d be surprised at how many times this happens with our releases.

Well, around THESE parts, we don’t consider him a one hit wonder, and feel that his contributions to hip-hop exclude him from this label.

*Turns up “Posse On Broadway” to ignorant levels*

Episode 88 - “One Hit Wonder?: Sir Mix-A-Lot (Remix)” is available now.

Originally released in Nov. 2021, this is another episode that we’ve taken from the vault and remixed.

We’re taking a look at the career of Sir Mix-A-Lot, & discussing how he has been unfairly stamped as a one hit wonder, due to the popularity of “Baby Got Back” from his 3rd album Mack Daddy.

This was one of my favorite episodes to record. Especially the Flavor Flav bit.

From the so-called east coast/west coast rivalries playing out in front of the world, to Andre 3000 lighting the fuse that helped take southern hip-hop to the next level. This show had something for everybody.

In honor of today being the 30th anniversary the original airing, we’re revisiting one of our early episodes, where we reviewed the controversial 1995 Source Awards. The show itself became secondary to the many explosive moments that happened on stage.

30 years ago today, D'Angelo dropped his debut album Brown Sugar. If you were around in '95, you remember how different this was from the R&B of this era, and how it helped to kick off the neo-soul movement.

We got into this and more in ep. 28, "How Does It Feel?"👇🏾

Pretty much the entire Isley Brothers & Maze discographies. My stepfather used to wear both of them out on any car trip over an hour. Now I can’t get enough of it. Especially this

In honor of today being his birthday, we're getting into the musical evolution of 2Pac, one of hip hop's most complex and controversial voices. From the militant and revolutionary 2Pacalypse Now through the paranoia and revenge themes of The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory. (1/2)

YES!! One of my favorite Unplugged vinyl releases and one of the best episodes in the show’s whole run! ‘92 was a good year for Unplugged R&B (Mariah, Boyz II Men, Shanice, Joe Public) and then they took until ‘97 to give us another big chunk of R&B greats (Maxwell, Erykah Badu, Blackstreet).
