Had a lake a few hundred yards from my home and I photographed this heronry every spring for several years. It was quite a distance from shore (used 500mm w/2X), so many photos were sunrise silhouette. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekSforShadows

*For My Beloved Son*
I still see your smile in the quiet light,
a flicker between dusk and dawn,
where your laughter once lingered,
soft as a prayer that will not fade.
If heaven has windows, my son,
may you look through and see
that even in my brokenness,
you are the breath within me.

Got this really cool, ghostly picture by accident the other day in Dillon Beach, CA. It is a Heermann's gull with both it's shadow and reflection.

Over 20 bat species call San Diego home! Though often overlooked, these nocturnal mammals play a vital role in our ecosystem—especially as natural insect controllers. Using echolocation to hunt, bats are the only mammals capable of true flight. That’s pretty amazing!

You don’t see the mental anguish and not so obvious physical injuries animals suffer in rodeos. These events that exploit animals in indescribably cruel and evil ways is perpetuated by less educated cowards. Please share and inform others so we can move beyond this archaic atrocity 😡
