To those of you whose response to this is an impulse to scold people for using old or dated technology or terminology, let me cite Carly Simon: I haven’t got time for the pain, I haven’t got room for the pain, I haven’t the need for the pain.
A (quite) young movie lover said to me recently, "Not everybody can afford a DVD player," and I said "How much do you think a DVD player costs?"

He said, "I don't know, like $500?"

Those of us who advocate physical media are maybe not doing the best job of messaging.

A GOP-backed proposal in Missouri would require citizen-led ballot initiatives to win majorities in all eight congressional districts to pass. But amendments that lawmakers put on the ballot themselves wouldn't be subjected to the same high bar.
Under this GOP Measure, All of Missouri’s Recent Popular Initiatives Would Have Failed
Lawmakers just advanced a constitutional amendment to drastically raise the bar for approving citizen ballot measures. Voters get to weigh in on the scheme next year.

I identified myself as a US citizen and a veteran, but that didn't matter. Agents smashed my window, sprayed tear gas and pepper spray into my car, dragged me out. Even after I complied, I was taken to a detention center and held for 3 days without charges. No phone call, no lawyer, no medical care

Utah has had universal vote-by-mail since 2019, and a recent poll found that 87 percent of Utahns trust that their ballots are counted accurately. But Utah’s governor signed a law this spring that ends this system.
Utah Was a Rare Red State to Champion Mail Voting. That Era Is Ending.
Inspired by the architects of Project 2025, Utah adopted a Republican bill to end universal mail voting and impose new restrictions on absentee ballots.
