The #GameDev scene here seems rad, I’m so reintroducing myself: I’m Aaron Amendola, proud game designer and podcaster. I’ve successfully crowdfunded multiple projects, including my first tabletop game: Earworm! (Praised by Polygon.com!)

Board games aren't always the best option.
People have a healthy fear of staples like The Game of Life and Risk, and even modern classics like Cards Against Humanity can be ill-suited for groups with mixed age ranges or differing political views. But everyone loves good music, and Earworm is a game chock full of great songs.”

“The catch is that there's no actual sound inside this petite, yet elegant, little box.
Players pull a card and then have to hum - or, in my case, whistle — a tune. It's a game of musical charades, with a set list that spans generations. Don't worry about scoring points, because this one is all about performance.

For best results, divide the deck ahead of time into batches of tracks that certain age ranges will be able to recognize in an instant, and feed the most reticent players the juiciest songs. It's like a night out at a good karaoke club, just without the weird booths, overpriced drinks, or that one waiter who always ruins the moment by opening the door at the wrong time. - CH”

Street Fighter VI might just be my favorite SF game (sorry, SFIVAE!) Just went through story mode as C. Viper and every DLC character has felt fun to play. If they ended it here, they had a good run but I hope they do a few more years before calling it a day.

On Monday, Yacht Club Games delayed the much-anticipated upcoming game Mina the Hollower.

On Tuesday, I visited their studio and saw the game. It made for a rare glimpse at why a video game gets delayed and what "polish" actually means.

This is anecdotal, but I’m seeing a lot of folks on my friends lists playing Ghost Of Tsushima and Hades. When a sequel to a good game gets released, newcomers love to jump in to the first game!

So just release games when they’re ready and don’t rush them to release and make your teams crunch!!!!!

It’s worth noting that I’m absolutely adoring Ghost Of Yotei. (Erika Ishii in particular is excellent!) I’m playing on a Ps5 Pro and the fidelity of the experience feels unmatched…

But Hades, Blue Prince, CS2, all of these run easily on handhelds. That’s quickly becoming my preferred form factor.

Hell has frozen over.

Jack White got his first cell phone ever this past July at age 50 and only because it became really difficult to do certain things without one.

2025 has been a wild year for video games. Expedition 33, Hades 2, Blue Prince, and Citizen Sleeper 2 are all some of the best games I’ve ever played. Full stop. GOTY discussions are going to be highly personal this year and I’m looking forward to seeing folks champion their faves.
