Judge McConnell basically walked them through the math, called all their arguments bullshit, and entered the order that the gov't stop playing games with the money while kids go hungry.

Didn't even give the gov't the chance to respond.

Excessive force. PERIOD!

They called them “violent mobs,” but the violence came from the guys with badges and body armor.

📌 Keep sharing videos, everyone, because they’re evidence.
Oh and if CBP tear-gasses someone that isn't an act of force or violence, but if the victim kicks the canister away then that is "assaultive" to the officer (and therefore justifies arrest or more-violent response). bsky.app/profile/jons...

Loevy plays a video of a woman's arrest. Hewson says the woman was "assaultive" because she kicked a can of tear gas that had been deployed.

Loevy: "When you tear gas somebody … and they try to kick the tear gas canister away from them, that's assaulting?"

Hewson: "Yes."
Is this the shields he is talking about? Where the "protruding nails" are the bolt-heads from having handles attached on tje other side?
So in one courtroom the DOJ is arguing that a sandwich thrown into an armor-wearing officer is a forcible assault while simultaneously in another courtroom DOJ says tackling protestors or shooting them in the head with less lethal munitions does not count as use of force. One rule for thee...
The key fact about today's "conservatives" is they ALWAYS put sides over principles. Appallingly, with people like Judge Cannon or AG Bondi this extends even to the principles of law. Its one rule for me, and another for thee.

Plaintiffs in the Chicago Headlines Club lawsuit claim that DHS is outright refusing to provide drone and BWC footage from a recent attack on peaceful protestors.

DHS is refusing to provide ANY drone footage which ... huh.

Alright I fucking wrote about this. It was apparently necessary to vent my rage about this this afternoon, because that took me two hours to get it all out and onto the page.

Another one bites the dust.

Trump fired yet another inspector general (IG), the FHFA’s Acting IG, Joe Allen, after Allen apparently gave exculpatory information to the DoJ lawyers prosecuting NY AG Letitia James, as required by the constitution & basic fairness.

The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email
TBH it looks very Soviet to me. Compare:

He was my rep before redistricting. He is about as good as you can get at that job.
I love how Rep. Joe Neguse reframed this question.
Today's "conservatives" ALWAYS consider sides over principles. Not 'cancelling our own people' is Roberts explicitly saying the side (our own people) is more important than the principles.

NEW: you can't refuse to be scanned by ICE's new facial recognition app, according to internal DHS document 404 Media obtained. Photos taken by the app are stored for 15 years, including of U.S. citizens. We've published the full document here: www.404media.co/you-cant-ref...
You Can't Refuse To Be Scanned by ICE's Facial Recognition App, DHS Document Says
Photos captured by Mobile Fortify will be stored for 15 years, regardless of immigration or citizenship status, the document says.

I wish so hard for the kind of rule of law that if an enforcement agent swore to a "largely fictional" story (as this judge finds) they would face severe consequences, starting but not ending with the loss of their job.
This dismissal opinion on a failed ICE arrest that @seamushughes.bsky.social found is worth reading in its entirety. Come for the debunking of DHS "fiction," stay for the snark about wiener dog, but definitely take time to read the 18 USC 111 analysis.

Is 'venemous' here a dog whistle for 'serpent seed' theology?
The most fundamental key to understanding today's "conservatives" is they ALWAYS consider sides over principles. Not 'cancelling our own people' is explicitly saying the side (our own people) is more important than the principle (the noxious things he might be 'cancelled' over).
I'm not THAT huge of a poetry nerd but this mashes two of my favorites. Well done. I don't know about Shelly but Larkin I think would crack up. Very nice.

Open letter from many #Emory faculty re the firing of a med school colleague. We asked that only tenured faculty who are citizens sign it. Many people worked hard on our Open Expression Policy, only to have it violated at least 3x in less than 3 yrs.

Another illegal US maritime strike—again in the Pacific.

Against a vessel allegedly operated by an unspecified "designated terrorist organization."

Four reported fatalities—dubbed w/o ID or evidence "narco-terrorists."

There's a word for premeditated killings outside of armed conflict.

The federal government keeps labeling everyone they go after as cartel members — and it keeps being proven false. These are the same people we’re supposed to trust when they execute people at sea under that very justification?

The House of Representatives has stopped convening. The Judiciary is hanging by a thread. Masked agents of the state are abducting citizens off the streets.

If this were another country we’d understand it all immediately.
Q: What did you mean when you said you're prepared to send 'more than the National Guard' into American cities?

TRUMP: if I want to enact a certain act, I'd be allowed to do whatever I want. The courts wouldn't get involved. Nobody would. I could send Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines -anybody I want
