I wish more people understood that autism is a dynamic disability:

- Just because we can do something one day doesn’t mean we can the next
- Our abilities change with context, environment, stress levels and support
- Co-occurring conditions also affect our autism and functioning

They have 4 MPs. We are four years away from a GE. Yet our broadcast media is talking like they’re a government in waiting? This over platforming must end and end now! We have other parties and they must be heard. Sign here now. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/71...

Today is Ukraine’s Independence Day.

We celebrate a nation and its people who are bravely resisting Russia’s war of aggression.

For their freedom. Their peaceful future.

We stand by them for as long as it takes for a just and lasting peace.

With Ukraine, unwaveringly.

I'm often asked: 'How do you do so many things?' - newsletter, podcast, speaking, illustrations, full-time job + 3 kids under 5. So I wrote down exactly how I do it! (spoiler: it's not that complicated).

What side projects are you working on?

Many ADHD/AuDHD folks have been raised to be attuned to other people's feelings instead of our own. While that gives us a strong sense of others’ needs, it often blinds us to what we truly need ourselves.

Great article about how AI can help our neurodivergent community. Annoyed that those who don’t have lived experience think their opinions matter: “Experts warn against over-reliance, fearing AI may hinder critical-thinking and self-reliance.” We don’t need to be infantilized.
How AI is transforming the lives of neurodivergent people
AI tools like ChatGPT are helping neurodivergent users communicate more clearly and confidently — though some experts warn that overreliance could come at a cost.

this is such a perfect illustration of the fundamental disconnect between what LLMs are and how they are sold and how people interact with them

it’s not a person, it does not “know” things, it does not remember and learn from things the way a person does

it is predicting what someone might say

I haven’t done this but I think it’s worth considering even for US citizens, especially for services with more sensitive data.
Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!
Getting off US tech: a guide
I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.

I've setup my own ATproto PDS to (hopefully) avoid the Bluesky checks coming in. I just don't want to give a random company that I don't have a choice of dealing with some personal information for pointless reasons.
Yeah, that is a good feature!
Migration of accounts between PDSes seem to be risky at the moment, so re-follow and delete seems the safer option.
I wonder whether making PDSs even easier and better for self-hosting or community-hosting would have a negative effect on Bluesky as a company. E.g. in terms of funding and investment.
Whilst troubleshooting, I noticed outgoing connections going to Bluesky from the server. I came across this Github issue 😔 It's probably not high priority.

I'm going to delete my Bluesky based account, the requirement to verify my age in the UK was the deciding factor.
Enabling IPv6 support by default, as well as on bsky.social since it's the most popular instance · Issue #80 · bluesky-social/pds
I believe that it's quite useful overall for simplifying overall networks hosting a PDS or at least reducing bottlenecks caused by translation methods (which while they will be needed for IPv4 only...
github.com
It's a relatively simple setup for one user. Just needs a VPS hosted somewhere with IPv4 networking and some DNS entries. The only thing that has tripped me up (so far) is the IPv4 requirement, as I was running an IPv6 only server.

Self-hosting a Bluesky PDS means running your own Personal Data Server that is capable of federating with the wider ATProto network.
