Former non-coal mine workings, particularly where shallow, may collapse and cause & cause surface settlement.

The mining hazard (not coal) dataset provides a subsidence hazard assessment for those looking to identify & mitigate potential ground instability hazards.

This recent paper made use of our automatic weather station #data recorded at Wytham. #long-term #ecosystem #research #LTER
A new study has found microplastics in greater quantities in a rural woodland than a nearby city.

It estimated up to 500 airborne particles were deposited on a sq metre of ground every day in Wytham Woods nr Oxford – almost twice as many as in the city centre.

2025 has been confirmed as the third warmest year on record, following 2024 and 2023, in a series stretching back to 1850.

Data from the Met Office, @uniofeastanglia.bsky.social and @ncas-uk.bsky.social shows 2025 was 1.41 °C above the average for 1850-1900.

The latest UK Hydrological Summary has been published 🌧️
November was UK's wettest month so far in 2025 & many areas have shifted from drought concerns to flood risk.

Groundwater levels notably low and reservoir levels still below average in parts. Winter rainfall amount will be crucial.
