The Stranger Things finale: I think this is the best we could hope for after they wrote themselves into a corner by introducing a cosmic horror in S2 that kids needed to be able to defeat. The whole season had issues with tension, but the emotional beats largely land. Overall, pretty decent!

Eating ~$5 for every international shipment on Every Villain Is a Loser that backed the kickstarter. Would be lovely if folks shared the Itch page for it to help me recover costs <3

Placing my bets now. I think within 3 years we’ll get the announcement of a Strange Things follow-up series. It will be in a new city with a new horror and will be set in the late-90s, with Y2K being a present part of the plot. The only direct connection will be a single character like Dr. Owens.

I generally like the Avatar movies, but they always make me a little mad, as they’re *so close* to having novel and interesting things to say, but more or less just completely ignore the conceptually coolest parts of their established narratives.

A two sentence Avatar: Fire and Ash review.

Between the mocap and variable frame rate, this is the most Video Game a movie has ever looked. It’s still a weird choice that the entire franchise hinges on 76 year old Sigourney Weaver playing 14 year old space Jesus.

Critical Role lost me when the pace of the show was no longer justifying the investment of its runtime. However, I also remember how much Guiding Light I watched with my mother as a kid, which would air a new hour-long episode *every* weekday. Critical Role is a soap opera with dice.

Whenever I do the design of a fake government document for RPG stuff, I intentionally leave the text beneath the redaction as a selectable layer on the digital copy as a little Easter egg for the determined. Very interesting to see that apparently the US government likes doing this too!

Anyone know how to make one of these type of ragged edges in Affinity 2 in a customizable manner that isn't just a texture snagged from elsewhere?. Preferably a vector brush or something of that sort, but a pixel/raster is fine.

10 years ago The Force Awakens hit theaters. I will never forget that night, as we met a woman while in line for the premiere who had named her then teenage daughter after Jaina Solo from the EU novels, something in which the young woman was clearly embarrassed about.

Absolutely love the prog rock bands from the late 60s and 70s that produced albums with some of the most incredible rock to come out of the era, interspaced by tracks of almost unlistenable dissonant noise.

What they don't tell you about writing a 400 page book is that it takes so long that months can pass between the point you write something and come back to it to finalize. During that time oh boy are you going to grow to hate what you've written.

Stranger Things should have just thrown off the pretense and had a fucking dragon as the final boss. Like an eldritch Tiamat. The show is just a 80s horror skin over a fantasy framework, so fuck it, go big or go home.

The biggest problem Stranger Things ran into is that it’s a show where the heroes are expected to prevail. A bunch of kids can’t really kill an eldritch particle hive mind, so they need an entity that’s more tangible to be the antagonist. Hence Vecna, which sucks the wind out of their coolest ideas.

My favorite bit of obscure Star Wars lore is that Hutts are hermaphroditic, choosing to either mate with a partner or reproduce asexually. Their gender presentation is based on their present mood and may shift several times over the course of their lives.

Truly a travesty when every new album by a band you love is their worst album.
