I've only recently joined Blluesky.

I'm baffled by my feed.

Why are there so many cats and rabbits?

I like dogs but there are too many "cute" dogs.

I don't interact with any of this stuff but I have an avalanche of pets, cartoons, artwork and novelist angst.

What's going on?

The British right wing media and politicians were extremely disappointed that the recent knife attack on a train wasn't carried out by a Muslim jihadist.

Then it emerged that one of the heroes during this attack was a railway employee born in Algeria.

I don't think they can cope...
“His wife has shared the wonderful news that Sam woke up briefly yesterday, and she was able to speak with him for a short time. This is a truly positive step forward, though there is still a long journey ahead in his recovery.”

Excellent news. ~AA

When I look at Trumpian America from across the pond, I increasingly think of Margaret Atwood's novel, "The Handmaid's Tale".

Vance, as leader of the "Christian Right", might be the man to usher in some such dystopia in 2028. Perhaps with Erika Kirk as his First Lady.

Our entire political conversation - under a labour government - has taken a huge shift to the right.

We can't let this be normalised.

I don't often call for resignations. But Sir Robbie Gibb's role in the BBC boardroom coup makes his continued role there untenable. He must resign or be removed
‘Gibb’s supporters say he is trying to save the BBC from itself; he was also heard last year to say that if he didn’t get his way, he would “blow the place up”.’
“a group of politically-appointed directors has forced the hand of Samir Shah, the chair, and the departure of the two most senior people in the organisation. Their resignations should be called out for what they are: political interference..”1/

When Boris Johnson was Prime Minister one of his senior advisers confided to me that one of the only things in politics his boss actually cared about was “killing off the BBC”.

Five years on, and it is a campaign that appears to be finally coming to fruition.

Robbie Gibb also led the consortium which bought The Jewish Chronicle in 2020, using £3.5 million which came from an unknown source.

The JC has since become more right wing and pro-Netanyahu.

He served as PM Theresa May's Director of Communications and has been described as "an active Tory agent".
Incredible that Robbie Gibb - most influential person on BBC board by many accounts and from journalists I speak in BBC - was involved in setting up GB News.

GB News of course has breached Ofcom rules on *multiple* occasions - no sign of resignations though

Should Gibb be sacked? yes, obviously. He's an abomination of basic journalistic standards. His GB News channel spreads conspiracy theory & disinformation. His Jewish Chronicle newspaper spreads invented stories. He is plainly trying to undermine the BBC so it's as bad as everything else he touches.

Keir Starmer is not only a politician devoid of principles, he's also a powder puff.

He's frightened of what Trump might do if he gets annoyed, so he stays quiet in the hope it will all go away.

He must be the most cowardly Prime Minister in British political history.
Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?
