Washington DC – *** Temporary focus on #FreeDC! *** but in normal times: U Street-area dining, music, arts, theatre, business, events, community issues, politics, history & more. 15+ years on FB with 10K followers. Trying to grow here on Bluesky! :)
Jeff Bezos is worth $239 billion. The Washington Post reportedly loses about $100 million a year.* He could fund it for 2390 years.

The gutting of this institution is a choice, not a necessity.

*The losses ballooned as subscribers fled after Bezos intervened editorially.

"Maximalism, Instagram-ready cocktails, and all things 'vibe' have defined the dining scene over the last few years. Eebee’s feels like the antidote to all that gimmickry."

In my last 6-7 posts I've gotten one like. I know I have a much smaller following here than FB and X but this is worrisome.

Brutal news from Bar Pilar for their owners, employees, and for the neighborhood: They'll close permanently after this weekend.

Deferred COVID rent came due. They sought an extension hoping for recovery, but foot traffic stayed low while and costs rose. There was no sustainable path forward. 😥

I know nothing about that camp for kids but as adults we had a great time staying in those cabins and exploring the park during a wedding celebration weekend in October. Seems like it could be great for kids.

Come on, @mayorbowser.dc.gov, your effort to embarrass that young reporter was uncalled for. You could have made the same point without implying she doesn't have the experience to ask that perfectly fair question about some residents' perception of your walk.

2025 has been a shitty, scary, and downright terrible year.

But D.C. is still the same beautiful city, full of resilient, organized, smart, and compassionate people.

Here are five of our favorite stories we published this year, showcasing exactly those people.

Of Trump’s many crimes this is well down the list as far as the impact on people’s lives, but it's near the top for how disgusting it is.

It's the John F Kennedy *Memorial* Center for the Performing Arts. Who puts his own name on a someone's memorial?

"Ben’s Chili Bowl isn’t just a spot to grab lunch or a hangover half-smoke; it’s a cultural institution. [Ben's] has served a signature D.C. dish to everyone from hardworking laborers to Hollywood celebrities, all while bearing witness to a neighborhood in flux."

They're not even bothering to hide their racism anymore. They could pick any number of DC streets but they chose the former Black Lives Matter Plaza to name after a shameless racist?

It's a big FU to DC in general & the Black community specifically. dub.sh/CharlieKirkDC
