I regularly remind my D&D players of the 2:3 “golden number” for average difficulty odds (1:1 is hard, 3:4 is easy); the fundamental flaw of the D20 system treating Armor Class and monster levels/CRs as absolute when they must always be relative to the PCs’ by 3 to 4 degrees for this reason.

Can confirm, before the Lord of the Rings films the RoLW OVA was considered peak hot shit for medieval fantasy + anime fans. The style matched the tone of 90s D&D so we overlooked all the other generic aspects.
