The full scale of the exploitative market in children in care is laid bare in a new report from Ofsted, published today.

Four out every 10 children in care now earn a profit for investors.

Linehan: “The judge commented that the complainant, a well-known trans activist, was not truthful. There are a group of dangerous men who are determined to bully women and girls, and to misuse the courts and police in furtherance of a misogynistic agenda.”

Who thought a Labour govt would do this? Not I.

I use books to distract me these days so that usually means fiction. I'd never been a big crime fan but I'm really enjoying Jane Harper's books, set in the Australian outback. Love a sense of place. But blimey it's an unforgiving landscape.

Who remembers when the @libdems.org.uk were funded by Puberty blocker manufacturers and thought women had penises?
Who remembers that Brexit campaign slogan from 2016? 🤔

My pre-budget take for the LSE Politics blog is up:

Labour are unable to articulate any vision or sense of purpose.

Much of the left has convinced itself that government spending can be maintained without broad-based tax increases.

Not a great budget backdrop.

Wealth tax and looser fiscal rules won’t save the Budget | British Politics and Policy at LSE
The narrative on the left that a wealth tax and looser fiscal rules would solve the Chancellor's 2025 Budget headaches has got out of hand.

My favourite "Google generation" blooper to date. Close second was last night's University Challenge when a photo of Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate was mistaken for Robert de Niro in Taxi Driver.

Shame I didn't get a photo for #foxoftheday
Went out to sort the recycling box because I heard a fox rummaging through the tins in the night. Found that fox had licked out an empty tuna tin, then shat in it.

Over on X where I still have an account many people post screenshots of @bsky.app threads, which on here I don't see due to being on blocklists. The absolute poison being posted is something to behold. It's delusional to think it's in any way morally superior.

Two years isn't long enough to monitor effects of this. This trial is a travesty - there is already a cohort of kids given these drugs on the past which hasn't been followed up.
BREAKING: UK's NHS to Launch Long-Awaited Puberty Blocker Trial

The trial will randomize 226 gender-incongruent youths under age 16 to receive puberty blockers immediately or on a one-year delay and will follow them for two years post-randomization.

Well today I learned that @dramirkhangp.bsky.social is a peddler of gender woo. And that led to finding out that the Wildlife trust he is vice chair of does the same. So, some direct debits cancelled this evening.

It's hard not to see Britain as completely f**ked these days.
School repairs left unfinished as firm behind PFI contract goes into liquidation.

Massive profiteering from PFI. After 25-30 years assets need to be in good condition before transfer to the public body. Then the company goes bust.

Govt doing more PFI deals.

Londoners baffled by bizarre Christmas mural.

At first glance the suspected AI-generated mural seems to depict a crowd enjoying the festive season. But closer inspection reveals a disturbing array of figures including people with warped faces and dogs with the heads of birds

Amnesty argued at the Supreme Court, in the For Women Scotland case, that all protections for homosexuality under the Equality Act be rendered meaningless and gay only associations be made unlawful.
Twenty-two years ago today Section 28 was repealed.

But we're seeing history repeat itself as some in the media and in politics spread bigotry and misinformation about trans people.
