Game Pass gets major price hike 'to offer more flexibility, choice, and value,' Microsoft says with a completely straight face
The once unbeatable deal is starting to look a little iffy.

A nifty coin from @edzitron.com has arrived. The inscription really made an impression on me.
If people would just stop doing stuff, things would just be so much simpler.

Remember that when you're wishing everything was simple. You are wishing for nothing to occur. The end of time. A frozen endpoint.

i may be clinically depressed but i've never been so depressed that i ever had any symptoms as bad as "walmart nostalgia"
The private lifestyles of otherwise public comedians before the social media generation would absolutely melt the brains of your average 22YO I think.
The idea that local funny guys and gals are gonna be angels in private these days is just such a wild idea.
If the #1 use of IE/Edge is to download chrome or firefox, the #1 use of Ubisoft Launcher is to sign in in order to cleanly uninstall that Far Cry or AC game you forgot was taking up 10% of your hard drive for the last 5 years.

Everyone is like "Don't try to solve problems when people bring emotions to you" but have ya'll ever considered that someone might do that b/c they can't possibly hold a single new problem amongst all their other problems people had them hold and solving is the only option left????
At an extremely high priority, #BlueSky absolutely needs to adjust its mobile app for most modern phones that have top swipe and bottom bar features. AFAIK it's basically all 2020+ phones, but I go to crop a photo can can't make it shorter bc it just opens my settings at top or hits back/home button
I've realized that playing an #MMO is, in many ways, very similar to being married
You don't have time for a bunch of unrelated stuff, your life centers around a daily list of chores, it's easy to keep up w/ info about other hobbies but super hard to make time to actually dive into anything else
One of my favorite things about getting into a lifestyle #hobby is how much daily events resemble full on RPs. My #miniature paint shopping list looking like a witch's over here.

Sometimes I wake up and someone has dropped a new HIS MAJESTY THE WORM hack or module or dungeon and it opens my mind to new possibilities with the game. I am absolutely blown away by the creativity coming out of the community.

Been building a theory around this: Hard work hasn’t paid for decades, but as everything becomes more extractive, as people *feel* bone-deep that their labor is not rewarded and that they pay too much for not enough, the only approach that feels survivable is grift.
Kids today are learning that the fastest and easiest way to make money—the key value that has been modeled to them in America society—is to scam others, cheat your way through, and attract negative attention online that can be monetized. My endless sympathy to parents
I am here to announce that I am officially a One Page Rules player over 40k. I am a heretic. #GW has just done way too much questionable stuff lately and the vibe of the #40k game + community, I must admit, is dour and sad. Grim even...
Meanwhile #OPR folks are small, mighty, and glorious aka fun.
The only thing that's 'gone wrong' per se is the same thing that went wrong in europe to cause the empire building years, the same thing that went wrong elsewhere. We let one part of the ecosystem invade the rest and claim to be the entire system.

it's not, will never be, and cannot be.
I find cultural expectations haven't budged an inch since, oh, the year 200BC or so. Athenian city states, early religious documents, OG philosophers.
We got movement cultures, nomads. Consumer, noble cultures. Producer, agrarians. Wanderers, Romani etc. Connectors, merchants.
+infinite expansion only matters to hyperconsumer cultures. More specifically, snacking culture. You only care about potato chip updates if they start including 50 more per pack. But imagine instead you go from 1 really good steak to 1 different but just as good steak. That's also growth. Movement.
a fun way social media platform discourse mirrors our economic conditions is this bizarre conviction that the only way for anything ever to survive in a worthwhile form is infinite and uninterrupted expansion
Bluesky has a growth problem

Bluesky has hit 38M monthly users, up 8M since March

Once adding 5M users per month, it’s now slowed to 1.6M. A 60% drop

But post volume is falling—more users, less activity

It risks becoming a ghost town with a loyal but shrinking core

Newsletter: AI is a money trap, with AI companies' ridiculous valuations and unsustainable businesses making exits or IPOs impossible. Elsewhere, data center developers have no exit route either, and US economic growth has become shouldered entirely by big tech.

AI Is A Money Trap
In the last week, we’ve had no less than three different pieces asking whether the massive proliferation of data centers is a massive bubble, and though they, at times, seem to take the default positi...

Now that I have a #Resin #3dPrinter I'm realizing why I kept seeing those not great boardgames at all the shops. One of my first handful of searches for minis was "Labyrinth" but the BG is just alright.
I feel like someone needs to tell manufacturers: "Dude, you can just make minis. It's ok."
I basically 100% agreed with you before, but since I was forced to address public concerns I basically just said Oh F it and went all in. I've found it pleasantly decent, but the actual friction reduction is minimal. So I def get your perspective as well.
+ SO many ppl are sloppy with PWs too.
And with 2fa being almost ubiquitous these days that's borderline true already, at least for the stuff I have to login to regularly. New device? Push to phone. Then you're in. Instead of pw, push, then login

The #1 security thing is that passwords suck(hackable), not that passkeys rule though.
