Genre. I don't actually do much bookshelf organization, but I wouldn't be able to stand books in a series being separated 😅

All Demeter wants is to safely shuttle her passengers to their destination, but everything keeps going wrong.

@barbaratruelove.bsky.social's Of Monsters and Mainframes was such a fun time! Definitely one of my favorite reads so far this year.

Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove
The title is written in colorful, 3D font and framed between an upper and lower set of vampire teeth. In the top left, a spaceship is flying away.

Anyway, this is just a reminder that early humans were human. They took care of the sick and loved art & saturated fat.

Thinking that everything they did was a grim survival tactic?

That's usually us projecting our issues onto the past. Not what their own lives were actually about.

This entire thread is such a good read!

So they found a 125,000 yr old Neanderthal fat rendering plant & I have thoughts.

Knowing that they loved saturated fat SO MUCH that they industrialized to get as much of it as humanly possible?

Makes me feel seen, heard, supported, etc www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

My once-a-year-ish dip into the romance genre.
I picked this one up because I'd heard it avoided a specific trope I'm not big on, and it ended up being the perfect June-July pride months read 🌈📚💙
A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall. Cover shows a woman in a yellow dress and a man in a blue tailcoat standing close together with foreheads touching. The man has his hands on the woman's waist, and the woman rests a gloved hand on his chest.

Oh awesome! I feel like I rarely ever find fans of these!

What are your top 4 favorite anime?

Definitely have more than four I'd consider favs, so instead of listing the big-name ones, here are 3 shows and 1 movie that I feel like are lesser known/less popular.

(But also the misplaced apostrophe in the description 😭)
Text image that reads:
"Morally Grey. You helped the heroes once, but only for money. And you sold them out later, but only to save your daughter from slavers. Your actions and motives are constantly contradicting, with no end in sight. Twitter and Reddit are divided in very different ways. Tumblr wants to eat you raw."

In the text image, heroes is spelled hero apostrophe s

This sci-fi horror novel is book 1 in a planned series, which I didn't realize when I first picked it up. Thankfully it wraps up a complete arc, even if some plot threads are left open for the sequel.

Symbiote by Michael Nayak. Cover illustration shows a floating iceberg. The top two-thirds of the iceberg are blue, but the lower third is red with root-like tendrils growing out of it.

Agreed! This reminded me of a book I read with a popular title comp. Many reviewers were disappointed because they felt the book was A.) a rip-off of the title comp, or B.) wasn't enough like the comp.
Truly a disservice to what I thought was an interesting book on its own merits.

This looks adorable! I had to immediately go put a hold on it at my library.

Mixed feelings on this one, tbh. It was marketed as mystery/thriller, but I didn't find it very thriller-y.

All the Other Mothers Hate Me by Sarah Harman.
Cover shows a saturated image of a woman in a seated pose. She's wearing red heels, a green fur coat, and sunglasses with a red silhouette of a person reflected in them. There are yellow balloons floating above her.
