I think, at least for me, that the deeper issue stems from the fact that we're alleviating pressure from bad parents to do their jobs better by having social media and corporations just apply bandaid solutions for them.

Kind of an awkward PSA because I've had some artist mutuals recommend these sites/tools, but
"ai image detection" tools are snake oil, and I feel like nobody bothered to scrutinize them.
So I opened photoshop cs6, drew a smiley face, and uploaded it to the "accurate" detector:

while characters like eggman and knuckles are definitely full-on redesigns, Sonic's more of a modification. It's the usual Sonic but with the hedgehog features pushed a smidge more

I think one of the most validating things to hear as a character designer is "that looks like a design you'd make" about some random cool character in a piece of fiction.
