he keeps his froakie tho. now part of the ADA, i think his froakie (probably now turned greninja) is the only pokemon he kept and he doesn't rly seek out any more additions to his team

so his team of pokemon trained into submission would probably be less visibly dangerous but certainly a viable threat. im thinking zangoose.. weavile.. maybe a toxicroak

still. i just can't see him caring for using them that much though. and he lets them go after leaving the mafia anyway

it's not too farfetched to assume the port mafia would somehow get their hands on crazy destructive dragons and pseudo-legendaries and all that good stuff.

dazai though -- see akutagawa and atsushi -- seems to like building up formidable opponents from the "nothing" they began as

but alssooooo in a pokemon x bsd verse i imagine the port mafia would totally have pokemon trained for criminal use .. dazai was training new additions like akutagawa, so who's to say he wasn't training those pokemon too ?

but. the one time he did actually choose a pokemon himself was purely because of chuuya

they were offered starters in the port mafia and dazai chose the froakie to chuuya's fennekin purely out of spite. he's chuuya's in-game rival. he just wanted to beat chuuya and brag about it tbh

like idk 15zai has a pikachu at some point that is just his personal power bank / portable charger for his game console. the moment he's too busy to be playing games, that pikachu is left alone and forgotten in its pokeball for weeks until someone reminds dazai about it

i can't see dazai finding any interest in pokemon teams honestly. i can't see him wanting anything akin to a pet or any other means of emotional responsibility ...

and if he DID have pokemon, he'd forget about them so frequently as soon as they've served the purpose he needed them for

if ranpo were to specialise in a type, it would for sure be ghost or psychic. combat-wise he's totally more of a strategic competitor. status effects, buffs & debuffs, whatever,, over raw strength

is a growlithe for sure... idk, he probably had something better for a while. something rare and powerful. but he was overcome by sentimentality when he saw someone with a growlithe bc he was reminded of his parents' arcanine and regretted letting it go 💔 so he traded for it
