Today is the 50th anniversary of the Iceland Women’s Strike. On October 24, 1975, 90% of the country’s women withdrew their paid and unpaid labour. It led directly to the implementation of gender equality legislation in 1976 and paved the way for Iceland to elect Vigdis Finnbogadottir as president.

1. The history of baseball stadiums in Toronto goes back a century before the SkyDome opened.

With the Jays coming home for Game Six, I thought I'd share my old thread about it.

It begins all the way back in the 1800s with a place called the Toronto Baseball Grounds…

The SkyDome under construction. The big claw of a digger is in the foreground, looking like it's about to dig into a pile of rock or cement where the baseball diamond is today. In the background, the curving cement decks of the SkyDome rise up, the 500s filled with blue seats, and one of the pieces of the stadium's roof is already built.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

I can’t describe the weird helplessness I felt when I briefly lived in the US and tried to correct misinformation about Canada’s single payer model. The Cdn system has twice saved my life since those days and I didn’t have to bankrupt my family to pay for it.
