“Hmm…” Charles opens his eyes. His own legs are held up above him, bulky thighs obscuring his view of the ceiling. All his weight is resting upon his shoulders, his spine curled around. His gut is flopped backward, up over his chest instead of his waist, which feels like an amusing observation. He takes a deep breath and, slowly and deliberately, uncurls himself, straightening his legs up into the air and then around until he’s lying flat on the ground. The Medicham hybrid flips himself over and then pushes off with both hands, a push-up that culminates with him pulling his legs up and curling then against the sides of his torso, knees nestled into the crooks of his armpits. “Just don’t feel right,” he murmurs to himself in an observational manner, calm and mellow. “Is somethin’ the matter with me?” With his eyes closed again, he performs a psychic scan of himself, taking note of the state of his body and mind. He doesn’t feel overstrained in the slightest by his exercises; he could hold this position for hours if he chose to. There are no disturbances in his thoughts, other than his present belief that something is amiss. His hunger is…manageable. “Whatever could it be?” He hums to himself with an uneasy smile. Broadening his focus, Charles extends his awareness outward. They are there, at the fringe of perception. Their existence is immaterial, yet they exert their will upon the physical world. They are dark, phantasmal, and oh so hungry. Their very presence is indicative of their intent. They have judged him to be a suitable target to prey upon. “Ah.” He chuckles. “Well that just won’t do at all.” With a smirk on her lips, Cassandra presses on the intercom button. “Attention, all office employees,” she says, the sound of her honey-sweet voice echoing in from the speakers outside her personal office. “The mandatory uniform inspection will begin momentarily. Please stand outside your workstation and await further instruction.” She chuckles to herself after she releases the button, taking a moment to lean back in her seat with her feet up on the table while she listens to the ensuing commotion. Through the misted windows which hem in the office, she can see figures moving as if in a fog, standing hurriedly and moving about. A susurrus of whispered voices seep around the doorframe, her long ears picking up the words of individual workers and making a note of how panicked each one sounds. Once she’s decided that they’ve had enough time to stew over what’s about to transpire, the rabbit stands and saunters around her desk, clipboard in hand as she opens the door. Cassandra maintains a straight posture, accentuated by her ears sticking straight up, as she struts down the rows of cubicles, her hips swaying side to side, her bosom bobbing. On either side of the path, at each cubicle, there is one of her underlings standing at attention, and they go ramrod straight as well as she approaches, her watchful eye observing their every detail. She nods her head, appreciating at least that everyone understood the basics of the assignment. Some of them are not wearing the exact right shade of black, some more blue than others, and that will deduct from their evaluations. The village is in disarray. Fire leaps and bounds across the groves, devouring huts and trees and fields. Even the stream running through the settlement appears to be on fire as lily pads and fallen branches burst into flames. Sparks dance in the wind, carried ever further away and spreading the devastation. And the mayhem is embodied by the nirik who run rampant through the ruined village. The kirin immolate into their enraged forms as if afflicted by a viral transformation, and where they meet they snarl and slash and spit at each other, hurling grievances and foul insults. Many of the kirin have fled, which is preferable to trying to stay behind and fight off the oncoming devastation, as any kirin who meets with a nirik is quick to turn themselves, giving over to their base anger, and thus the brawl grows yet more violent. Only Rain Shine stands amid the chaos, looking on in dismay as their home falls to shambles around them. To think that this is all the result of an argument that escalated into a full-blown war over the course of mere minutes fills the elder kirin with anguish. And, well, loath she may be to admit it, a little bit of anger. Maybe a lot of anger. She hasn’t felt angry for many a moon, and now she feels it boiling within her. She should leave while she can, but perhaps she can make good use of this moment. So with a stomp of her hoof, producing a thunderous shockwave that rocks through the village, she bellows, “ENOUGH!” “What is the meaning of this?!” The changelings freeze in place, rooted by terror, their joining abruptly forgotten. Queen Chrysalis lumbers into the bed chamber with heaving, ponderous motions. It’s a small place for two mere drones, and the space suddenly becomes claustrophobically tight as the monarch enters. Oryctes trembles in her presence, and Aphidoi clutches him protectively. “Have you forgotten your solemn duty to the hive?!” Chrysalis snarls and raps a fist over her sternum, her chest wobbling. “Have you chosen to so callously disregard your duty to me?!” “My Queen, please!” Aphidoi cries desperately, clenching her legs together and positioning her arms to cover Oryctes, to shield him as much as possible. “We are doing as you instructed! We are acting for the glory of the hive!” Chrysalis scoffs and sneers at them, down along the curving slopes of her front. “What kind of glory do you expect to bring with this paltry performance?!” She shakes her head and snaps her fingers, and her horn glows with a pulse of emerald light. “Enough! Up, the both of you!” Oryctes whimpers and shivers. Aphidoi gently strokes his cheek. She rises from him, and they both groan as she slides free from his length with a pop, then helps lift him as well. There are disapproving hisses from Chrysalis in the background.
