2. Institutional reform and technology are the best ways forward to make meaningful impact on animals. Until we find a more effective form of animal rights activism (ie. maybe social media, per Faunanalytics), our focus should be on reform/tech.
1. There has been little to no progress in the % of vegans in the U.S, and only marginal progress abroad. Our current activism doesn't work, and we should identify if this is a problem with the *type* of activism, or activism itself.
I've officially given my 2.5 week notice to Google so I can work on cellular agriculture (or potentially plant based proteins/foods) in the future 😁
What do you think of the new manufacturing facilities popping up? Liberation Labs, pow.bio?
What makes a specific bioprocess viable vs not? My cofounder and I are trying to enter this field, but we want to be careful with the proteins/bioprocesses we target, and what kind of cost model to use to assess viability.

Plant-Based Proteins:

Already on the market, and the ones that are already profitable. The goal with these is to reduce their costs compared to their meat alternatives.
Precision Fermentation:

Pharma companies use this. They take some organism (ie. yeast), and use it to make insulin that normally would come from a pig. We can make whey and casein this way, but lots of challenges exist. Read Industrial Biotechnology Commercialization Handbook to understand issues.
Also, follow the vegan lists if you haven't already 😜
😂 probably not as well as twitter
Clean Meat:

This is the lab grown meat stuff you all have probably heard of. A good primer is Clean Meat by Paul Shapiro. This field is the most behind - there have been several advances, but it requires significant capital, and has issues (contamination, yield, taste).
One of my new missions (with @adityanair.bsky.social and @nimishamehta.bsky.social), is to switch entirely to the alt protein sector, and have other vegans do so too. There are 3 very promising sectors:

1. Clean Meat
2. Precision Fermentation
3. Plant-Based Proteins

Will elaborate below.
How do you only have 18 followers? I'm trying to have famous friends here and you're failing me.
Hey all! I'm interested in moving away from tech companies into the clean meat/alt protein space. If you have any advice, please let me know!

X has ~18m daily USA users. @bsky.app, ~1.5m.

Is it worth 20 MINS a day to proactively recruit and bring your friends, neighbors, relatives, businesses, anyone who is or could be a user, to @bsky.app?

If Bluesky ends up with more users than the others, you destabilize musk, zuck, trump.
