Whether it's greenhouse gases, land use, or water use, plant milk is better for the planet than dairy. Visit Veg2Vegan.org to spend the month of November trying delicious plant-based alternatives to cow's milk!

Not-so-fun fact: The meat and dairy industries receive greater government subsidies than most plant crops! This reduces the cost of meat and dairy to the consumer, encouraging further consumption, which is devastating to the environment (and animals' lives, of course). earth.org/how-meat-and...

Along with cockfighting, homophobia, and racism, dairy farming came to the Americas as part of the conquest. If you're ready to decolonize your diet, visit Veg2Vegan.org for 30 days of advice, inspiration, and support.

We mourn the passing of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a fearless Black trans elder who fought for liberation, dignity, and justice. From Stonewall to decades of advocacy, she taught us to resist, to love fiercely, and to care radically. Her spirit lives on in every fight for collective freedom.
We mourn the passing of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a fearless Black transgender elder whose life embodied the struggle for liberation, dignity, and justice. From the Stonewall uprising to her decades of advocacy for incarcerated trans women and communities of color, Miss Major taught generations to resist oppression and love each other fiercely in the face of state violence. Her legacy is one of radical care and defiant joy, a reminder that true freedom means leaving no one behind. May her spirit continue to guide us as we fight for the world she envisioned.

Rest in power, Miss Major. Your legacy and work will live on.

I want you to train & teach & love on & create families within my community & gender non-conforming people so that we can understand that we have a culture, we have a reason to be here. We have a purpose. We’re entitled to be loved & seek happiness, & share that with people that we care about.” —Miss Major Griffin-Gracy“]

Urban expansion can lead to habitat loss. Yet, as IPBES #GlobalAssessment shows, smart city planning + nature-based solutions can create resilient, bird-friendly cities.🌍

This #WorldMigratoryBirdDay, let’s protect migratory birds in our #SharedSpaces 🏡

Artist Neda Moridpour of the Louder Than Words collective explains why she went from vegetarian to vegan while nursing her daughter. You can too! Visit Veg2Vegan.org to try it for 30 days!
Photograph of artist Neda Moridpour and the Louder Than Words logo along with this quote: "During that process of breastfeeding, I finally realized how messed up the whole dairy industry is, because I was also producing milk. So all of a sudden, after years of being vegetarian and just being proud of myself, I just finally realized that oh my God, I've been doing this all wrong and this is someone else's food. So, I stopped eating dairy."

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

Issue 55 is here! It's a very special edition of Current Affairs, with every article devoted to animal welfare.

We’ve recruited leading scholars and activists to lend their voices in this issue, but we’ve done it with the signature Current Affairs satirical and artistic flair.

When longtime VINE friend Bernadette visited the sanctuary, she was most inspired by Luna, who selflessly nursed the calf of another cow along with her own when they were all starving. Like Bernadette, you can be kind to mother cows by going vegan. Visit veg2vegan.org to get started!

Turkeys have lived in these woods for millions of years. Many flocks make use of the part of our property reserved as a wildlife refuge, but some also like to come and hang out with the cows!
