I got kicked out of SFParents FB for pointing out Meredith violated her own rules against me, which is at once very funny and evidence that SFParents is not, actually, interested in supporting all parents, schools, and families. This is a rich lady's vanity project

If you don't want a strike in SFUSD, then you should really talk to the organization proposing packages that would lead to a decline in take home pay for teachers and principals (management). Otherwise you're just an anti-union ghoul
violintuner.bsky.social
If you don't want a strike, you should be telling SFUSD to do right by its rank and file.

If you are instead lecturing said rank and file on how it is unreasonable to expect better than nothing, you're just an op and should stfu.
violintuner.bsky.social
That's how we know SFUSD can meet our asks. And our asks are good for our communities, because we are asking for sensible salary packages and concrete, achievable improvements to our working conditions, which are students' learning conditions.

Also, we don't make up our proposals based on what we want. If we did we'd be demanding 200% raises and a pony. We make our proposals based on deep dives into district finances completed with experts at our state affiliates.

SFUSD's 2% offer is unreasonable and represents a significant decline in pay for most if not all educators because we are looking at 40%+ increases to our health insurance premiums.
violintuner.bsky.social
If I were a literal centimillionaire running an astroturf org purported to represent SF families I might not take the position that it is very greedy of educators to want a contract that causes them to make less money than they do now

I'd also like to note that Weiss had a habit of complaining to journalists' bosses if they declined to meet with her, and that she and Nellie "Literal Debutante" Bowles had their car stolen in LA after leaving it unlocked with the keys in the drink holder

A lack of common sense, if you will
violintuner.bsky.social
I have always assumed that Bari Weiss changed the name of Common Sense to the Free Press because the ghost of Thomas Paine showed up at her door with a bucket of tar and a goose down pillow

Health insurance is an obvious way for the city and county to support SFUSD - perhaps with some of the ERAF they're stealing from the district - because SFHSS handles our health insurance. Just saying!
violintuner.bsky.social
In order to get the below COLA 2%, SFUSD demanded that we give up all contractual class size limits and a bunch of other things, because what SF really needs is 33:1 Kindergartens. Anyway our BT declined this offer!

HMO coverage so bad I had to quote policy documents and threaten a lawsuit to get a doctor assigned after seven months without one.

SFUSD offered its teachers a 2% raise, which would not even come close to covering the health insurance gouging
violintuner.bsky.social
If/when SFUSD's principals and teachers go on strike (along with a ton of other teachers unions locals) it's going to be because of things like a 50%+ increase to our monthly health care premiums. I'll be paying over 1k a month for two people to get HMO coverage

Oh look, it is every moderate Democrat in SF! These folks get so, so so very mad when folks call them out and I'm fucking delighted their craven, selfish views are getting the airing and shaming they so deserve

A surveillance state is bad, but these dudes don't want one for themselves, just for the masses. They are special boys and suggesting otherwise is cancel culture and wokeness and whatever the fuck else
violintuner.bsky.social
Dude needs tech bros to control the surveillance because otherwise his notorious sex pest proclivities might get some press

Larry Ellison envisions a surveillance state in which techbros rule. '“Citizens will be on their best behavior, because we’re constantly recording and reporting everything that is going on,” Ellison said in an hour-long Q&A during Oracle’s Financial Analyst Meeting last week.'
Larry Ellison predicts rise of the modern surveillance state where ‘citizens will be on their best behavior’ | Fortune
Oracle's Larry Ellison believes citizens and police alike will be under constant surveillance of each other.

I personally know that multiple researchers have requested more information about their claim after being able to find nothing anywhere that would support it and Edunomics has failed to provide anything (because they made it up)
violintuner.bsky.social
Reminder that this is the entirety of the proof Edunomics has shared to justify its entirely made up claims about closing schools

This is because they just made that number up to support their campaign against public education
Slide containing a list of items purported to be 4% of an average school district's budget, but zero information explaining Edunomics' "rule of thumb" that closing 1 in 15 schools saves 4% of a district's annual budget

When folks pointed out that this was racially coded she lost her shit

Also, she's big into EA and got all those sorta incriminating texts from SBF

So anyway maybe she's not really able to understand education policy

I am not getting into the Mississippi Miracle discourse except to say: it's as as self-evidently bunk as every other miracle ed reformers have tried to sell and that the reporter pushing it started a microschool because her friends told her Oakland schools were bad
violintuner.bsky.social
It is extremely funny that the teachers who would be the first to go under a pay for performance scheme are the most in favor of it and yes this is about just who you think it is
violintuner.bsky.social
I spent six months of the last school year filing complaint after complaint after complaint and rigging system after system to attempt to get my classroom up to state code while also doing my extant more than full time job and I have fucking had it with you hobbyists.
