I think the reason people didn't like the resolution to Wicked is because they wanted the story to be a different story when it was actually just supposed to be a backstory for The Wizard of Oz and why things are the way they are. This is my take after only having seen the second movie.

the only good thing about genAI is that it got me to really love seeing bad art, because I know a person put in time and effort, made themselves vulnerable by showing it to others, and is trying to improve. I value that more than anything now
