Al-Zubi, one of two candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America, hopes to center her campaign on her voters - focusing on building social housing, implementing programs for low-income residents, and lowering barriers to participation in local government. Co-governance sits as a core tenet of her campaign, relying on collaboration between elected officials, advocates, and residents.
Al-Zubi, who moved to Cambridge for college, fell just short of sitting on the Council two years ago, ranking 10th out of 24 candidates.
She has since worked as a community organizer, street canvassing, door-knocking, and organizing events for Cambridge's chapter of the DSA

What if we made the infrastructure good enough that "experience" wasn't required? What if we made the infrastructure robust enough so that cycling in Boston *is* incredibly safe?

Mine is that I think Blue Bikes have democratized cycling a bit too much. They handle terrible and it encourages non-cyclists to ride a machine they have little experience with. We need a little elitism in cycling to weed out the folks who do not have experience riding bikes in a city.

Bonus hot take: while Boston was in dire need to upgrade its almost nonexistent bike Infrastructure, there is a small but vocal minority of cyclists who insist on safety at all costs. I hate to break it to you, but riding in a city will never be completely safe. It’s a risk that any cyclist takes when they decide to ride in a busy place. The more you ride, the more experience you will get. And the more experience you will get the more you will adapt to riding in moldy stressful situations.

They are not planning "a violent crackdown" on 10.18. What they are doing is sending a signal to their shock troops to try to cause havoc. But those shock troops will be vastly outnumbered. Go out and protest freely. Do not be cowed.

When Cambridge announced that it would close the Transitional Wellness Center, I helped lead the effort to save it. While we were able to win $1 million in vouchers for the displaced residents, the TWC never should have been closed in the first place. On the Council I will fight to replace it.

We're able to continue this level of support and increase the efficacy of our weekly distros through mutual aid and we would greatly appreciate any spare change you may be willing to send our way. These contributions would go towards purchasing tents and other vital supplies.

A pile of belongings gathered into plastic bags and bins, including cooking supplies, tents, and hygiene items, which all had to be moved due to the sweep or else risked getting thrown out. This pile comprises the entirety of a person’s belongings.
