Donald Trump isn’t an authoritarian. He’s a mobster or, more accurately, he is emulating the mobsters he interacted with in New York. He is using the power of the federal government to extort, pressure and coerce institutions and individuals to do what he wants. It’s governance by threat.
Reports are now saying that Trump will invoke the Insurrection Act on Monday and deploy the Army’s 11th Airborne Division, one of the military’s most elite fighting divisions.

Just finished ‘The Emergency,’ by George Packer who discussed his book on the Bukwark. It’s the story of a society after the collapse of an unnamed empire. It revolves around the relationship between the city people, the country people, and an immigrant refugee population. Worth the read.
