Donald Trump isn’t an authoritarian. He’s a mobster or, more accurately, he is emulating the mobsters he interacted with in New York. He is using the power of the federal government to extort, pressure and coerce institutions and individuals to do what he wants. It’s governance by threat.

Trump is clearly losing his bearings, and there is no one in the White House who can calm him or get him to modify his actions or his provocative statements. Trump’s irrational and impulsive behavior is becoming particularly worrisome.

The shooting of two National Guardsmen in DC falls at the feet of Trump and his henchmen. They took the most apolitical of organizations and weaponized it against the average citizen. He turned those guardsmen into the face of his disgusting assault on our democracy and our country. May he rot.

I keep seeing people say that Trump will resign. He isn’t going anywhere unless he’s incapacitated or deceased. If he is going down, he will try to take the whole country down with him. And he can only do that provided he’s in power. We are entering a dangerous period in this national nightmare.
