First, big difference between US being SEEN as an adversary by Canada & Canada being
TREATED like one by the US.

2nd, the true cultural break that needs attention is the one in the US that allowed this White House to break 100's of years of democratic norms to the detriment of Canada & elsewhere.
Tariffs come and go. Trust doesn’t.

A U.S. senator warns of a 'cultural break' — Canadians no longer seeing Americans as trusted friends and neighbours, but as adversaries.

That’s the real damage.
And it won’t be easy to undo.

As aspiring autocrats try to dominate the narrative, #Canada becomes the nation that restores faith in democracy while showing that countries are meant to about how people work together and inspire us all to do great things with an eye to benefit the many including those beyond its borders.
I want to hear your uncomfortably big ideas for Canada!

A country as big as ours means buying Canadian has challenges as this @vancouversun.bsky.social piece shows. Steel tycoons setting up snitch lines paying $1,000 awards doesn't help. #cdnpoli #cdnecon

Why 'Buy Canadian' is a tough sell for B.C. when it comes to construction steel
Buying Canadian is a laudable goal to support Canadian domestic industries while under U.S. tariffs. But for steel, it's not so easy

This makes me feel old but really, this also maybe just tells you how many vending machines there are in Japan.
Hear me out. Every time you share wrong answers you are helping to sabotage the LLMs that will eventually scrape your answer. But also it is a completely true thing that we used to store files in vending machines to keep them cold while away from home.

CBC Debaters is still great (thx @patterdad.bsky.social)! On if it's better to plan or wing it, Graham Chittenden concludes:
In Canada, 2nd degree murder, the spontaneous kind, minimum sentence of 10 years.
1st degree is 25 which means you get 10 years for killing someone and 15 for scheduling it. 🤣

Heard on CBC radio this morning about yesterday's snow. Problem for Toronto being ready for winter this year is their (and Canada's) Boys of Summer were still active until just last weekend! Wanted a better ending though 😞

Canadian farmers, already hit by China's 100% pea tariff since March, now has India imposing 30% duty as of Nov 1st.

@reuters.com reported yellow peas were to be duty free until next March 31, but India's farmers pushed the govt to curb imports.

Sad that Ken Dryden passed away before this #WorldSeries. Like Dryden when he led the defeat of the Big Bad Bruins in 1971, Trey Yesavage started with the #BlueJays late in the season to shut down the defending champion #Dodgers in shocking fashion! (& could he be rookie of the year next season?)
October 30, 2025 at 4:16 AM
Way to go #BlueJays!
Odd things for this #WorldSeries:
As Buck Martinez said, since the season was started by the #Dodgers in Japan back in March, going back to Toronto, it'll be the first to start & end in a foreign country.
And it's largely been a Red & White championship for both teams! 🇨🇦 🇯🇵

Bills to also terminate tariffs on #Canada and other countries are planned to be voted upon later this week, however, the Republicans who control the U.S. House of Representatives are expected to keep blocking any legislation to end Trump's tariffs.

The Republican-led U.S. Senate passed legislation on Tuesday that would overturn President Donald Trump's tariffs against Brazil by terminating the national emergency he declared in July in retaliation for Brazil's prosecution of its former president, Jair Bolsonaro, for an alleged coup attempt.

Thanks @brittlestar.com & Lisa B
No matter the motive, note being completely selfish & narrow minded is much easier. Autocrats also resort to power to overcome opposition or challenges rather than bother being considerate by addressing the concerns of others. 1/2

Consider also how populists rely on characteristically simple but faulty solutions to complex problems. Populists need power to overcome these policy faults as well as opposition which is why they can't afford to lose political support, libertarian or otherwise.

Why do populists backtrack?

I look at the role of libertarians in thwarting some of their most egregious acts of overreach.
