Oh yeah, 90s Mariners were also the Kingdome which I had never been to (but another 90s Seattle staple, Almost Live, left me a lasting impression)!

I can relate growing up in Vancouver. 90s Mariners were Griffey Jr, Edgar, and Randy Johnson, the #51 (& former Expo) before Ichiro arrived in the aughts.

But Go #BlueJays, all the way!

Timely for trade talks for those countries but especially for #Canada since PM Mark Carney is in Washington to meet with POTUS today reportedly to talk about at least steel tariffs (so aluminum would fit as well). #cdnpoli #cdnecon

Consider also how populists rely on characteristically simple but faulty solutions to complex problems. Populists need power to overcome these policy faults as well as opposition which is why they can't afford to lose political support, libertarian or otherwise.

Why do populists backtrack?

I look at the role of libertarians in thwarting some of their most egregious acts of overreach.

Didn't help the (Dixie) Chicks after they faced very heavy backlash when they spoke out at a 2003 London concert against ex POTUS GW Bush over Iraq. This 2006 song remains a testament of the battle they endured.

I would be keeping an eye on this process. And if I were a trade-exposed sector, or a US-owned subsidiary located in Canada, I would be working hard to get US owners, US clients & US suppliers to be visible and vocal in this process.

I put together a primer on Charlie Kirk — and paid some special attention to his relationship with Nick Fuentes and the Groyper movement.

There's no hot takes or sweeping declarations. Just some useful background. www.bugeyedandshameless.com/p/who-was-ch...

Yesterday, as thousands of Canadians took part in the annual #TerryFoxRun to keep one man's dream to cure cancer alive 45 years after the Marathon of Hope, @nytimes reports how Trump is dismantling the effort in the US.

“It will take decades to recover from this, if we ever do.” America’s cancer research system, which has helped save millions of lives and is in one of its most productive moments, is under threat by the Trump administration.

Port of Vancouver still ships more met coal than thermal as the stats below show. Why it dropped at Westshore is the expansion at Neptune in the inner harbour. It's half owned by Teck/Elk Valley so it shifted a lot of met coal exports there starting in 2021. @seandunn.bsky.social

Nice e-document! I'll do a proper read later but in the meantime, curious to your thoughts on this thread of mine earlier this year.

#FlagDay has a stronger meaning this year because #Canada isn’t just fighting for its sovereignty or even democracy. It’s a simpler battle for hearts and minds over what defines a country and its people and what that means toward how we engage the world. 1/8

I presume it's "The prime minister resembles the Liberals of the 1990s" line as nonsense? Here's the context that is familiar with those who remember the government under Jean Chretien and Paul Martin.

Great conversation thank you. The screenshot below that @pkrugman.bsky.social posted separately on his substack previewing this podcast could also say that those in charge are only in favor of progress they can take (steal) credit for.

China delays final ruling in canola dispute with top supplier Canada
China on Friday prolonged its probe into Canadian canola imports, buying six more months for negotiations that could ease a year-long trade dispute sparked by Ottawa's tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
