I think this speech needs sharing again.

Since the PM said this, there have been Tories who have come out & said the same as Reform: that they want to see people with a legal right to be in the UK get deported.

Call it out and stand up for these people - our friends, neighbours and key workers.
Giving myself 2 points for this.

A 4.1% min wage rise with higher increases for lower age groups has just been announced as being in the budget tomorrow.

I predicted:

5. Above inflation minimum wage rise (about 4%) with bigger increase for lower age groups.
I hate media speculation.

But here I am speculating on the Budget about 27 hours before it happens!

So let's call this a game instead:

2 points for something I get totally right.

1 point for something broadly right.

-1 for something that goes the opposite way.

How many points will get?

Minimum wage is to rise at above inflation rates from next April.

The standard rate will rise 4.1%, 8.5% for the 18-20 age group & 6% for 16-17.

This is a further step towards equalising the rates.

Inflation is currently 3.6% and is expected to fall further in the coming months...

I think we've found the next topic people will be pearl clutching over in faux outrage whilst simultaneously ignoring the full picture and all the facts...so here is a reminder of a post from a week ago...
This is really interesting.

The UK courts have a huge backlog which is only going to grow unless there is drastic action. Brian Leveson did review earlier this year. One recommendation Judge-only trials in some situations.

I was not convinced.

But here is the courts minister visiting Canada.

COP30

The Energy Secretary has made a statement in the Commons about the outcome of COP30.

Here is a clip of his follow up to the Tory shadow minister's response.

"The truth is, there is only route to energy security in the modern world, which is clean, homegrown power that we control."

The PM has given a statement on Ukraine today.

He was asked several times about Reform's links to Russia...

Here is one question and answer.

"What other links are there between Reform and Russia?"

"No wonder they are Putin-friendly."

The Soft Drinks Industry Levy is being expanded

The Labour government has announced that exemptions for milk-based drinks with added sugar & milk substitute drinks with added sugar will be removed.

There will also be a 10% reduction in the threshold to drink which the levy applies to.

Carer’s Allowance overpayments

Since 2015 over 200k carers were overpaid due to complex rules around what income they were allowed to earn.

The DWP demanded payments back - often for thousands of pounds covering the full allowance.

Labour ordered an Independent Review in October 2024.

A look back at the Chancellor's conference speech a few weeks ago, and a reminder of 80 years of NHS history.

It's a sign of what we can expect in the Budget tomorrow.

"The NHS - created by a Labour government.

Protected by EVERY Labour government.

And renewed - by THIS Labour government."

Our Labour government ARE taxing wealth.

They ARE making the wealthiest in society pay more.

They did it in the last Budget & I expect more tomorrow.

Anyone who says it's not happening is lying to you.

Anyone who promotes phrases like 'tax billionaires' with no details is selling false hope.

No Prime Minister. Not you as well.

We've just got my 11 year old past all the 6-7 stuff (it's now over to listen to him)...

...just for my 7 year old to pick it up (it's even going to be in their Christmas play)...

...and now the PM.

When will it end....

I've made a few posts about the Labour government's new Critical Mineral's Strategy.

But do you know why it's important?

It covers production of elements from lithium to gallium & germanium to bismuth!

They are all used in the world around us, especially in our technology like phones and laptops!

What is going on here?

Zarah Sultana is now officially listed in Parliament as being an MP for Your Party.

But Jeremy Corbyn and the other two remaining MPs involved with the party are not.

Has she gone rogue again?

As much as we might hold Ken Clark up as an example of a decent Tory here is a timely reminder for us that he is still a Tory.

Cutting spending & lower taxes is what he wants. He criticises the Chancellor for not implementing these policies.

That suggests the Chancellor is doing the right thing!

Labour doing even more to help rebuild our NHS!

+ 250 new Neighbourhood Health Centres - bringing different professionals together under one roof

+ £300m for NHS technology to support the work of staff and boost productivity (a 2% productivity increase could see £17bn in annual savings reinvested)
Chancellor to double down on drive to cut NHS waiting times and rollout of new Neighbourhood Health Centres
250 Neighbourhood Health Centres to bring patient care closer to home and bring end to postcode lottery of healthcare access.

Listening to the BBC Chair, Dr Samir Shah (longside others) in front of the Culture Select Committee right now, he was using the word 'impartial' a lot.

Like it was the most important thing the BBC does.

So it got me looking at the Royal Charters since 1981.

Earlier this year the UK launched the Global Talent Fund to attract 60-80 of the worlds top researchers (& their teams) in areas relating to the UK's Industrial Strategy.

The first 4 have been named & are in the process of relocating to the UK: 3 are coming from positions in the US.

Just saying...

It still hurts me to see the damage the Tories did to our NHS over the years, especially when I look back at where it was when Labour left office in 2010.

It will take time to properly fix our NHS, but Labour has done it before and they doing it again. Here are just some of the ways it's happening!
