Should clarify that I'm exaggerating here. I don't actually think it's an average game. It's an excellent game that's severely brought down by some extremely questionable design decisions for the majority of its run time.

I'm overexaggerating, the game just has pretty glaring flaws and questionable design decisions that really drag down an otherwise great experience

I just found that there were less points that were obviously 'oh I need some ability to get up there' for the first half of the game. They were EVERYWHERE in Hollow Knight, few and far between in Silksong, because you usually take a diff route anyway. That, and it takes 20hrs to get the double jump

Could be, idk if you've played many metroidvanias but I thought the world and level design to be really good in the first one. The second is too, honestly.

That's almost definitely what happened. Nothing in the base game of Hollow Knight was anywhere near as challenging as Silksong.

Yeah I'm kinda weighing it up at the moment. I had just finished my second playthrough of Lies of P and its DLC right before Silksong, and that was extremely challenging but never frustrating. Sort of just highlighted the difference really. I think I need something less demanding to play. 😅

You know what's great about this site? I can interact with a follower I don't really know, and if I look at their profile there's a very very low chance of them being some right-wing nutcase, unlike the 99% chance it seems to be on Twitter.

Yeah stuff like that has been what's kept me going so far. I love the characters and world so much, but they've been a distraction from the annoying stuff, not the other way around. I've already saved Sherma so idc 😂

The runbacks are bad, the fake benches I didn't think were too big a deal. Stuff like the Groal encounter and Coral Tower are awful and there just so they can say the game is difficult. Like I get it, you can make the game hard. Just make it good pls

I'm just about ready to drop it at the end of Act 3, even though I made it this far.
Don't get me wrong, I agree that everything you listed is a 10/10 as well. The combat is good mechanically, but there's far too much tedium, and too many encounters are unnecessarily cruel and punishing.

Art, dialogue, music, world design, etc are all 10/10, no issues there. Game is just quite miserable to play a lot of the time. Massive slog that's difficult for difficulty's sake.
