Today we traveled up the last bit of the New Zealand south island to Picton and rode around the Queen Charlotte sound seeing the wildlife!

Continued our drive up the New Zealand coast to Kaikōura today and went whale watching! It was an amazing day with an incredible coastline. We got right up next to a sperm whale!

A brilliant orange dahlia with curved petals, making a tidy sphere shape. Dark red and maroon hydrangeas with deep green stems and leaves. A very unusual color! They are next to normal pink and blue hydrangeas for contrast. A rare kauri tree, native only to New Zealand.

Our second full day in Queenstown, and we took a fast boat ride and a slow boat ride! The TSS Earnslaw is a steamboat built in 1912, the same year as the Titanic. Wrote about 1100 words on the ride back, on the new Shifting Lands book!

Wrote a much more respectable 1224 words today on the new Shifting Lands book.
Did a post-mortem on the beehive. They didn't starve, and even had new brood. They might have gotten cold and wet, which is really bad for bees in the winter. Hope to catch a new swarm in spring!
