Mostly Alexandria gossip, snark, and bitching about HUD stupidity.

Alexandria is cooler than where you live

Housing prices are set by supply and demand. Housing is distributed according to people’s ability to pay. If we don’t allow new development at the high end of the market, rich people will outbid the poor for the best available existing housing. Building and operating homes costs money.
What kind of food is this? Wrong answers only.

You know, I packed for it to be cold in Prague, but it's been high 40s and low 50s for the last few days. Thanks for taking one for the team and enduring the cold weather so I don't have to, DMV region!

I have sampled the Old Prague ham! It was meh. Sorry @portcityposter.bsky.social and @volcanojw.bsky.social

The guy at the booth totally ripped me off, but I had the last laugh: I took what I couldn't eat back to the hotel for tomorrow's meal.

It tells you a lot about me that I want progressives not for reading but for not having to switch glasses when I'm taking pictures. I need my regular glasses to see and reading glasses to check the focus and settings on the camera. Switching between them is a royal pain in the ass.

Is it really a trip to Europe if your transportation isn't interrupted by a demonstration?

Hot Take of the day: 95% of all "tiny homes" would be better off purchasing a single wide manufactured home and installing it in place.

As a bonus, the single wide could have a ramp up the side, and be way more ADA friendly. Reasonable size bathroom, no mandatory death loft, much more suitable

I have many feelings about this, but I will simply highlight that City departments have been asked to make budget cuts for multiple years in a row.

Great, now give me a one-seat ride from Landmark to Del Ray

@dashbusva.bsky.social
Alexandria residents will soon have a new one-seat ride to downtown Washington, D.C., when Metro launches the A29 bus route next Monday.

New Metro bus route to offer direct service from Alexandria to downtown D.C.
Commuters can skip transfers starting Dec. 15 with A29 line

Welp, the good news is I finally got my Lumix to connect to my phone so I can use remote shutter!

...the bad news is I've been shooting in RAW for the last four days. I fixed it now, but that's like a thousand pictures that need conversion to jpg before I can share them

Took my nap early and woke up right in time for Czech rush hour. I guess I'll hide out here until things calm down or maybe go back to sleep.

Apparently it's easier to get pictures on a Sunday night when all the drunken partiers are in bed.

Now let us hope the pictures come out...

You know you've found a truly local Christmas market when it only has like 25 stalls (1/3 of them selling hot booze) and all the food menus are in Czech.

(thank you Google Lens Translate)

I am halfway through this exhibit and have had raptures at least four times already. I love modern art so much.

I absolutely love the way this art museum organizes works by theme instead of period. Even within the galleries devoted to one period they will separate the art with curves from the art dominated by angles. More museums need to do this.

I travel thousands of miles and I am still a night owl. I am possibly the least tired I have been all day despite having spent two hours in the cold carrying around a tripod. Admittedly, there was a 4 hour nap beforehand, but I was still tired when I woke up and had to force myself outside.

Am I at all thrilled I got turned around trying to find the contemporary art museum? No. Did it turn out to be useful because I found a camera store where I could get a case for at least one of my cameras? Yes.

Wish I weren't so tired, though.

So far today I have seen a Burrito Loco, a Wok In, and a place selling Louisa chicken. And it's only 12:25.

Things Metro could never:

Run an LED sign in a tunnel synced to the speed of the train so you see a Pepsi ad as you ride along.

Attempt to nap unsuccessful. Still, there was lying down.

Hotel is as nice as I remember. Acceptable bed, absolute tranquility, and the guy at the desk says he remembers me. I suspect I might even be in the same room as last time, which is A++ in my book.
