Something Wicked This Way Comes.

This is another one of my gothic horror inspired pieces. I did this particular one after a viewing of Stephen King’s The Mist and a trip to the Booth Museum of Natural History in Brighton.

It was amazing, Pete. You would have loved it. I still actually have one of the postcards I picked up from the gift shop at the time. The exhibition was in the Pompidou Centre probably about 1986/87ish.

Well I know what it is (for me anyway), it's "strong lines on creamy background". See also Giacometti's paintings, which caused my head to explode when I first came across some in an encyclopedia of art as a teen back in caveman times
'Annette', a painting by Alberto Giacometti. Portrait of a woman, sat straight up facing the viewer, arms crossed over and resting on her lap. Strong dark lines on a background of creamy greys, predominantly blue

Love Giacometti!! Always remember going to see an exhibition of his paintings and sculptures during my art college days. They were amazing. This was also, of course, during those self same ‘caveman’ times!!

New! Cassetteboy vs Keir Starmer.

This took absolutely ages, so if you'd like to buy us a coffee at ko-fi.com/cassetteboy we'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Thanks for this, Paula. Interesting to see an earlier incarnation of the game. It was 2015 when I played. Crazy to have created it in survival mode. That must have been really difficult for her. To my shame I’ve only ever used creative mode. Keep meaning to give the proper game a go at some point.
welchtoons.bsky.social
Sounds awesome, Paula. Does she still have a visual of it? That creative mode is so addictive. I don’t think I played any other game while mucking about with that.

Suddenly reminded this morning of that time 10 years ago when I spent a whole year dicking around in the creative mode in Minecraft!! The ‘’Welchcraft’ block even had its own front door, candles, a toilet & permanent portal to the Nether!! And people say I don’t know how to party.

“I mean, your society’s broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No let’s blame the people with no power & no money & these immigrants who don’t even have the vote, yeah it must be their fucking fault.”

RIP Robert Redford.

Did this illustration back in 2010 for a local cinema event.

Robert left us with so many great movies. For me it’s Three Days of the Condor, All The Presidents Men, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid plus I also have real soft spot for Sneakers (which no one seems to remember!!)

Still marvelling over this recent find in a local bookshop. A huge collection of old sci-fi paperbacks all with stickers from 2 of my favourite London comic shops of the past. So great to see stickers for Forbidden Planet (Denmark Street) & Dark They Were and Golden Eyed out in the wild once more.

This is a rather nice find. Searching through one of my Whole Earth Catalogues is an original advert for the 1st edition paperback version of Frank Herbert’s book, Dune. I wonder if I send off the $1.25 they’ll still honour the order? Worth a bit more than that these days methinks. 😂

Just verifying my age.

The Bejam badge should be worthy of age verification alone!! Now where are those ice pops?

It was very tempting, Paul. If it’s still there next time I go back I might have to.

Figure of speech. Still do. Wish I had more in my collection actually. Had no idea it was still running though. Haven’t seen a Mad mag in the UK for years. Love all the classics. 🙂

It must have been a good day for charity hunting, Paul. I found this beauty in one in Emsworth today. Why do all these places favour that £15 price tag? I also left without a purchase sadly.
welchtoons.bsky.social
Not sure, Pete. Looks a bit fuzzy to me. I’m used to watching them in HD. One thing I do know is even in the HD versions the film quality varies on certain episodes. Some are actually filmed where as others look more like they were filmed on video tape. This one looks like one of the video ones.

Used to love Mad also. Sadly I don’t have many any more. Think I might still have the Rocky issue somewhere.

Love this! I’ve always loved old comics especially all the crazy adverts. This beauty is for Genuine Soil From Dracula’s Castle from an old Warren comic. However, thanks to the net, I can now look up what things like this actually looked like. Think the certificate is worth price of admission alone.

Sorry, Pete, I’m drawing a bit of a blank I’m afraid. That face is definitely very familiar. Bruce something sounds about right though. Can recall him from the TVS/Southern days. Was he on Day By Day?
