I think he did more than Gollum because he was able to let go of it and pass it on to Frodo.

As for Boromir, that was only in the movie, in never happened in the books.

What I like most about Tolkien is that there is lots of room for interpretation. Everyone’s experience is different.

Sauron as forger of the Ring would probably see him self more as the owner that the bearer anyways.

The title of Ring-bearer was only used for those three who helped destroy the One Ring: Bilbo, Frodo and Samwise.

I started playing and GM’ing around 1984. I lived in Europe then where D&D wasn’t as omnipresent as it is in North America. We did eventually get to playing AD&D and the Red Box after The Dark Eye, CoC, Paranoia, etc. and played many more. Got back into the hobby with 5E DM’ing for my kids!

How wonderful of your mom that she chose that book! I remember reading it to my youngest one a few years back. He’d read a couple of pages and then I would. These moments are truly special, particularly if it gives you such fond and lasting memories!

88 years ago today, The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien was published. I still have my first copy that my parents gifted me. It was my gateway to modern fantasy and it was also the spark that ignited my interest in cartography and map making which eventually became my profession.
