Alan, your whole math is bogus.

"The average density of dwellings is 50 per hectare". What you've missed is that new infill is far higher density than this.

This lovely medium density Nightingale development is 400 per hectare, for instance. www.sixdegrees.com.au/projects/nig...

The idea that bike lanes are in conflict with these things is just so stupid.

Workers and customers all get to the city by bike, deliveries already happen by bike (ubereats anybody?)

This story about a new proposed supermarket focused on the threat to existing smaller retailers, but for me the worst part is this:

For those following the debate re electoral systems/wasted vote etc, I made this video about how wasted vote still occurs in a preferential system: youtube.com/shorts/QfIGg...

The usual talk about how much this will "cost", an arg that I don't accept at the best of times, but particularly silly here given that it will likely increase fare revenue via increased family ridership.

Free public transport for children a sweetener in looming state budget
All Victorians under 18 will be able to travel free on trams, trains and buses from next year under Premier Jacinta Allan’s pledge to ease living costs.

Many such cases - parents want their kids to walk or bike to school, but drive them because the roads are too dangerous. Absolute madness

Free PT for seniors but not 5 year olds.

Free travel across the state for seniors weekend tourism - $33 for a family of four to go to the zoo from one stop away on a school holiday weekday. My head is going to explode

It’s amazing how much modern inner city delivery logistics depends on flouting parking laws.

In fact it relies on this so much it probably couldn’t exist without it.

Subtle example of anti-homeless architecture in Brunswick. This sports pavilion has a roof that’s designed to let the rain through - presumably because if it didn’t, homeless people would shelter there in bad weather

How Australia’s Voting System Maintains Two-Party Rule
As democracies go, Australia isn’t as dysfunctional as the United States. But its electoral system still ensures that many votes are undervalued or wasted.

Seats per million primary votes based on counts so far and rough seat estimates:

ALP: 20 (88 seats, 4.3 million votes)
Greens: 0.6 (1 seat, 1.5 million votes)

You can call this many things, but "democracy" ain't one of them.

Mr Green I hope you enjoy this video I made that explains wasted vote in Australia @antonygreenelec.bsky.social
Most Australians don’t understand that around 60% of all votes are wasted every election - they receive no representation at all in the final result. I made this short video to explain, let me know what you think

Compulsory voting with older people is a farce. Apparently the AEC turned up at my father in law’s aged care home and “helped everybody to vote”.

My father in law has very significant cognitive issues. How is this allowed or appropriate?

Assuming Xavier is part of a family of four (2 parents+1 sibling), it would cost them $11+$11+$5.50=$27.50 to visit him in hospital for 2 hours on a weekday, even at off peak times, even if they lived one station away in North Melbourne.

It’s amazing how bad the comms are for the Metro Tunnel.

Even basic information like “what are the next stations at each end of the tunnel?” is actually quite difficult to find.

Try googling it!
