@asimovssfmag.bsky.social Have people seen the print January – February issue in bookstores or in the mail yet? (Someone needs to shovel me out so I can go check at B&N.)

Sheila Williams of @asimovssfmag.bsky.social is currently recovering, but this month's issue features her new piece on Asimov's SF writers who left us last year. Writers can always remain present in their absence. asimovs.com/current-issu...

Just the other day I saw Werner Herzog recounting the tale of the insane penguin walking into the blank interior OF ANTARCTICA from his movie Encounters at the End of the World, so this feels like an imagined, hopeful end to the reign of Trump. Lead on, crazy penguin!

My girlfriend, a nurse, said she wants to see an MRI of Trump's brain. I thought this might be the result.

Fortunately and conveniently for Trump, no divine being made itself available for comment.

The Bible is the first to go…
A new Florida bill would pave the way for schools to remove any book that mentions sex, from the Brave New World to The Bluest Eye.

Literary, scientific, artistic merit would be stripped from consideration when deciding if a book should be accessible to someone younger than 18.
Florida lawmaker says literary merit doesn’t matter if books mention sex
The big story: The Florida Legislature’s years-long push to add restrictions to school library books hit a bump in 2025, when the Senate rejected a measure to delete consideration of “literary merit” ...

Hey, @nytimes.com , let's see the transcript. Much of this is paraphrasing to make it coherent.
Gift link to the most frightening article I've ever read. Trump isn't just an existential threat to America; he's an extential threat to humanity. This is the scariest thing I've ever read in my life.

It has to be said that much of what these reporters did was to paraphrase Trump, turning what was likely incoherent into something at least parsable. I'd like them to publish an attached transcript. The NYT is doing PR for Trump.
NYT: “Asked in a wide-ranging interview if there were any limits on his global powers, Mr. Trump said: ‘Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me.’”

If you’re not alarmed yet you’re not paying attention. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/08/u...

Leave it to Mary Oliver to sum up what I said in a long-winded essay in one beautiful, heart-wrenching poem. 🤨

(Seriously, though: When Oliver veers from her usual, gently-moving-through-our-aching-world structure to drive home line breaks, you KNOW she's not a happy camper.)
