Nothing other to post than to say tonight was one of those especially satisfying TTRPG sessions that happen only rarely.

- Cool character interactions
- "That one" player RPing more confidently
- PC growth
- Mechanics clicked
- Setup for an epic showdown

I'm excited for next session. #ttrpgfamily

Some thoughts on "fiction-first" vs "mechanics-first" #TTRPG design.

These terms become muddy & unhelpful really fast (similar to the use of "narrative"). Lots of semantic games & arguments in the nooks & crannies.

Here's my unpretentious, pragmatic, non-philosophical take.

I'm personally uninterested in TTRPGs as puzzles or problem solving. I prefer my escapism.

Let me have fun, tell a story, & roll a die to get past a challenge w/ fun narration. Don't boat anchor me with a riddle or logical trap.

It's why I bounce off hardcore OSR and dungeon-delving games.

Hexingtide is an indie #TTPRG I'm playtesting for playing as classic - or creatively new! - monster archetypes for a game of Minimalist Monstrous Roleplaying.

I just released a new set of five pregens to players get into the game: Demoniac, Werewolf, Magic Mirror, Vampire, & Clockwork Scarecrow.

Late night, long day, and lots of snow here in St. Louis!

But I'm excited to share the five new "iconic" pregen characters that will become the core of Hexingtide's examples and lore (as much as there will be for a setting agnostic #TTRPG).

Will be sharing links to this doc tomorrow.

Absolutely agree. There's such a wide world of TTRPG experiences to have out there that the best thing a newcomer to tabletop RPGs can do for themselves is to experience what else is out there.

Yeah, most of the time that means 5E, but the it applies to people who came in via PbtA or anything else.

I'd love your feedback on Hexingtide: a #ttrpg playing as monsters from folklore & pop culture - in a rules-light format supported by clear procedures.

Also working on rules and the combat system for Send Thee to Perdition (instead of work on Hexingtide or Rattle and Rend, of course).

Very quick playing and abstract, using zones inspired by The One Ring and a single-action economy similar to Dragonbane.

Last week, I really (really) needed to focus on either Hexingtide pregens *or* literally anything for my skirmish game Rattle and Rend, but my ADHD brain said no.

So here are minis I painted for the maybe-never to be run historical campaign set in c. 1580 Antwerp.

Brand new. Rules-light. My #ttrpg love letter to monster stories. For fans of Hellboy, World of Darkness, etc. 🖤

It is Christmas Eve, and I wish you a happy holiday season!

While I’m working on the “iconic” pregen characters for Hexingtide, I have an interim pair of pregens: what’s better today than Santa and Krampus?
