(4) It is aspirational: Vervaeke notes, borrowing from Socrates, that we are not wise, but rather lovers of wisdom (𝑝ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑜−𝑠𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑖𝑎). Claiming to have achieved wisdom is a pragmatic self-contradiction, as wisdom is a continuous process of growth, not a fixed state.
(3) Wisdom facilitates flourishing: By overcoming foolish, self-deceptive patterns, wisdom allows for "self-organized transformation into the life of flourishing"—a life that feels deeply meaningful.
(2) Wisdom restores connectedness: It deals with the cognitive habits and historical conditions that sever our sense of connection to ourselves, to others, and to the world.
(7) Wise mind as an abode within which we reside energizes our motivation and willingness to practice DBT skills ( #mindfulness, #emotionregulation, & #relationshipskills) which are afforded to us to embody our aspirations, which are increasingly aligned with wisdom over time.
(6) Such is the impetus for expanding Wise Mind, as more than a mind state to access occasionally, and encourage a stepping into Wise Mind as an abode or environment within which we can meet our aspirations and our commitment to principle-centered living, keys to building a Life Worth Living.
