few years ago I combatted productivity anxiety by charting how I used all my time. it allowed me to see that week for week, regardless of how much I felt I'd done, I was always consistently hitting about 40 hours a week between work and hobbies. doing it again to gain a sense of perspective

Pile on top of that a love for cartoons, and I'm dressing up a character in fashion choices that continue to describe what I'm getting at, and it becomes a second life scenario. Cartoon characters as name badges is what the internet is all about.

People, I never felt I could understand. But if you tell me "I'm like a cat", I can work with that, because animals as allegory is something I do understand.

The appeal of being a furry to me was a general comfort with animals and what I knew them to represent in fiction, as allegories for the human condition.

Like, in an Aesop's Fables kind of way, we know what I mean when I say I'm like a cat or a dog or a lion or whatever. You know what I'm getting at. "I'm like that", I say, hoping people get the gist of my personality from that context clue. It's Dog, approximately.

My presenting personality is a negotiation between who I am and who I want to be. This seems true for a lot of people. It's exhausting. I am too autistic to wrap my head around this problem, and so it's easier to just point at a picture of a dog and hope for the best.
