Just so we’re clear:

We’re a lefty money account, not a MAGA account.

Just bc we are telling folks to stay calm during tariff & stock market volatility does not mean we endorse what our shitbird president is doing.

We’re here to talk you through how to react & how to protect yourself long term.

How was your week? Any frugal wins to share?

But Regina and I had a conversation this morning about how much of the way we live just feels normal, even when it’s very much not.

So it felt like a good time to include this in the five. Because while it’s normal to me, it’s certainly not normal.

5. I didn’t buy any clothes this week.

(If you’ve been around for a while, you know I haven’t bought clothes in 8.5 years, so this isn’t news, actually 😆)

If you don’t have an active library card, this is your sign to sign up for one (and use it!) because they are one reliable place you can truly be an anticonsumer.

4. My library card worked overtime yet again this past week.

I’m now up to 128 books read for 2025 (over half of them audiobooks) and whoa my budget doesn’t have room to buy nearly that many.

And it’s also easier when there’s a clear reason, aka opting out of the garbage overconsumer culture that’s run by a very few mega corps.

Honestly, too? Sharing publicly helps me have more days when I spend nothing, because I want to be able to say it here.

3. Another three no spend days this past week, once of which was Thursday, of course.

The more often your default is to *not* spend money, the easier it becomes.

A big part of how I’m able to do so many things is having married someone who is an actual partner to me.

Life is busy in this season of life, but it’s manageable since there are two of us.

2. This week, though, I had a presentation at a conference down in Tacoma, so my husband filled in at chess club.

He also took care of dinner & dishes, so when I got home late and exhausted that evening, I didn’t have to worry about anything but feeding myself a quick late dinner and going to bed.

Thanks to that role for a few years now, I’ve gotten a lot better at chess (mostly against my will 😆).

Beyond the fact that my kid likes me volunteering, the other perk though is that the cost of the class is waived since I volunteer.

Friday’s Frugal Five, a peek into our frugal week:

1. Chess club has started up again after school, and while they have an instructor, the school also requests a parent volunteer, which happens to be me.

It’s Friday. Make sure to make a plan to show up for yourself this weekend, not just time for chores and catchup.

What’s something on your list?
womenspf.bsky.social
Until next month and Black Friday 🙃

Three things to do today:

1. Review your last five purchases - categorize them as needs, wants, and oops shouldn’t have

2. Stretch for ten minutes

3. Message a loved one you haven’t heard from in a while

I should make a video reminding you that you don’t need anything from Prime Days but I’m tired. You know you don’t.

This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system.

I am not fearful — I am fearless.

We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights..

Every day you don’t spent money and stash that cash instead, is another day you’re preparing for a general strike.

Three things to do today:

1. If you have FSA dollars, make a plan to use them before the end of the year.

2. Unshrimp yourself! Your back will thank you.

3. If you don’t care about skin cancer, remember sunscreen protects against wrinkles, too.

You know we are always down with that nuance. 💚
