A huge congratulations to previous VWF guest Omar El Akkad, who has won the 2025 National Book Award for Nonfiction for his work, One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This.

Akkad's powerful memoir won the U.S.-based award. The annual literary award program celebrates and honours authors for books published in the United States roughly during the award year.

It’s been a phenomenal fall/winter Special Event season at the VWF. R. F. Kuang enchanted us with Katabasis; Arundhati Roy and Naomi Klein transformed us with their conversation about Roy’s memoir, Mother Mary Comes to Me; and Chris Hadfield took us on a journey to the stars in Final Orbit.

Congratulations to Souvankham Thammavongsa, winner of the 2025 Giller Prize for her novel, Pick a Colour. This is Souvankham’s second time winning the prize. We were thrilled to hear her speak at #VWF2025 last month.
