Another day, another chat mit einem jüdischen Kollegen in Deutschland, der von nicht-jüdischen Deutschen boykottiert wird, weil er nicht mit den Ansichten der deutschen Mainstream-Medien darüber übereinstimmt, was Juden glauben *sollten*

Philipp Engel: Nur Rassisten nennen meine Mutter Iranerin!

The librarians at A&M presented me with a Jewish Studies “housewarming” gift - the first Yiddish sci-fi fantasy novel ever 💕💕

Academic English that will send you to an early grave:
"But the situation is not exhausted by the contradictory constatations of ineluctable relation and its equally unavoidable absence." In an article meant to *clarify* Kafka's story on the Chinese Wall. Happy Halloween! 👻

10/7 was like 9/11 I suppose because of the sense of an existential attack but ca. 90% Israelis blaming the government for the event is the total opposite of my country‘s path

No justice without humility.

Determined not to lose friends over hard and bitter politics.

Turns out I can’t process through the horror stories from friends on Oct 7 fast enough to gird myself for the despair of war. Many out there don’t even have the luxury of my sloppy ‘time to process’: they are thrown in the middle. So I am not going to be posting much- just hoping

"My daughter and son in law were killed today but in their dying saved [their child's] life. They were all together in the secure room. And they covered his body and he was saved. Nevertheless a bullet penetrated them and went into his abdomen." Prof. Ilan Troen, a friend

After hours of adrenaline and dread following the news, I learned someone who was very generous to me and instrumental in helping establish a Jewish Studies program at my university has suffered terrible losses today in Israel.

May all who have been affected know no more sorrow.

It's kinda nice that in Vienna I often hear the question, "do you celebrate the chagim?" instead of "are you Jewish?"

and it's so much more pleasant than at Ben Gurion airport, too.

Watched a TV series from the 90s and I was so distracted by the unparalyzed forehead muscles and moving eyebrows that I couldn’t concentrate on the dialogue 💉

The reason there's a "christlich-soziale Partei" in Austria at all is that, when it was born in 1891, those words were code for: not the Jews in the socialist party.

Christianity as a weapon *against* the people - that's the ancestry of the #ÖVP. It must prove itself otherwise.
